Finding your Identity is one of the struggles in life plenty of people are faced with at some point. Everyone is looking for their identity some try to force one that does suit them upon their selves, but one’s identity isn’t chosen. Throughout the story “Courting a Monk” a Korean girl named Gina is struggling to find out who she really is. Many of us are at that point in our lives that Gina was in the story. Many of us being young adults we’re trying to figure out where we belong in society, or just who we are. Look around many people are going through that phase in their lives where they are trying to figure out where they belong. Finding love is a life changing an experience all the emotions people go through. Love is a strong drug that most people will experience in their life. It can lead to the most memorable time of your life, or the biggest heart ache. The story opens up with the line “When I first saw my husband” (1052) this is Gina telling the story about the things she went through to find her love which later helped find her identity. Gina never felt like this about anyone of the other boys at school. Micah a great impression on her he wasn’t like the other boys. He didn’t succumb to the temptation she was presenting him this made Gina want him even more. If you have ever been in love, plenty of people can relate to how Gina was feeling. Love can completely change a person. The term people do crazy things for love is very true. People can be very easily persuaded to alter their true selves for their significant other. Finding Micah had a significate impact on Gina’s life, such as she stopped acting out in the manner of sleeping around with all the other boys at college.
