Shoplifting is a major problem in today. The temptation of not paying for something, just hiding it away and saving your own money is a large factor for some people. The culprit just thinks he's getting a product for free and doesn't know what he's actually doing to himself and the community. Shoplifting effects everyone, yourself and the everyone in the local neighborhood.In this essay I'm going to explain some of the circumstances of stealing from local stores, or any store. After I've been caught stealing I found out how wrong it is and how it is a disadvantage to everyone.
The stores are tying to crack down on shoplifters by making the punishments as strict as possible. Shoplifting effects the community in a big way. The stores get about three cents per every dollar purchased for an item. So if you figure that they don't make a whole lot of money out of profit. Every shoplifter that takes a product also is taking the product, which costs money by the store so that is also a set back and puts them more in debt. Some stores might even close down because of shoplifters making the store go bankrupt.
The stores usually raise there prices and then causes more shoplifting, but the people that don't shoplift just end up having to pay more for the product or else go somewhere else to shop. If the customer goes to a different store because of the rising prices the store will also lose business therefore could cause them to go out of business if enough customers leave.From ...
I Daniella M. Genzale was caught shoplifting from Sephora in Roosevelt Field Mall. I put two items of makeup into my pocket book and walked out of the store passing all points of purchasing.When I left the store the security made us stop and ask us to give them what items were taken and don't pretend nothing was taken because he watched us. Then we walked back into the store with the security and they took us into the back room, once we were there he showed us the video of us taking the items and calculated how much was stolen all together. We were in the room for about an hour before the police officers came and hand cuffed us. At this point I was in tears crying, I was worried my mom was calling me and she was nervous. According to businesses who supply to Woolworths and Coles, for Woolworths and Coles to be able to sell products at low prices, they would exert their market power on suppliers whose majority of products were sold to them and were dependant on them to operate. The suppliers were pressured to reduce their prices or threatened be released as a supplier. This effectively forced suppliers to drop prices or lose their largest source of revenue and potentially result in closing down. The long-term implications of this would be that as suppliers are unable to sustain their business due to price cuts, they would close down and result in many brands ceasing to exist. This would greatly impact consumers as it would reduce the range of products and limit consumer choice. The low prices also create a high barrier to entry for new businesses and effectively run smaller retailers out of business, further reducing the already low level of competition. Life is bursting with temptation everywhere and based on peer pressure, if you can’t get something you want you rather find another way to get it. Individuals of the community rather act out of action without thinking about it first, which can lead them to the severe consequences of their actions. Then you later think what I did was wrong, I could have prohibited that by doing it differently. Afterward, you feel a great deal of emotions running through your mind; encumbrance, sorrow, and helplessness. These reactions cause you to overthink and make you feel compunction than you already feel. Counterfeit products don’t only effect businesses. They affect everyone, robbing Governments, and even society, of tax revenue, income, and jobs. The flood of counterfeit and pirated products create drain on the economy that deprives the government of tax revenue for essential public services and puts a greater burden on the taxpayer. The competition between the authentic product and the counterfeited product means is killing the western manufacturing, and putting at risk the towns that rely on manufacturing jobs for income.

The consumer is affected in a few different ways because of shoplifting. For the consumer who shoplifts, which is usually a teenager or senior citizen, the law affects them. No shoplifter will never get caught even though that is what most believe. As shoplifters steal for longer periods of time, and their shoplifting progresses as they start to steal bigger and more expensive items more frequently. As time goes they start to become involved with car shopping, stealing cars, and breaking in to houses. Shoplifting has consequences, which vary from getting your parents called all the way to large amounts of jail time. Even people who accompany shoplifters are in danger; for being with a shoplifter is almost as bad as shoplifting. That is why it is important to stay away from people who are shoplifting. If it is your friend who is shoplifting the best is to try to get him to stop. You could do this by telling him not to, reminding him of the consequences, and maybe even threatening to tell authority if has to come to that. If someone ever asks you to steal you should know the answer is no way no how, because getting in trouble with law will mess up your entire life. For the consumer who does not shoplift, they have the problem of always being suspected. Because of shoplifting, some stores in my area do not allow minors to enter with out an adult. Many stores will ask you "if you are going to pay for that?" It becomes quite annoying when store owners hound you while you are shopping or ask you to leave if you are taking too long when you are actually just browsing.

From first discovering this and growing into young adults’ people become well informed that not only is it wrong but it is considered a crime. The justice system has dictated what makes up a crime and the elements that follow it. It has also outlined how to punish individuals based on the crimes they commit. Sometimes people mistakenly mix up crimes that seem closely related but based on further evidence are obviously different. Two crimes commonly mistaken because they are relatively close in terms is theft and shoplifting.

The tremendous loss of jobs is increasing rapidly over time which is consequently affecting the world economy. There are a number of reasons as to why this is happening. The first reason has to do with companies and businesses losing revenue which in turn affect employment. These businesses and companies lose revenue due to the counterfeiting of their product. When infringement parties make the counterfeit goods, consumers will most likely be attracted to buying these goods because most likely it would be selling at a much lower price compared to the original. This therefore decreases the demand for this product and therefore means that some of the market shares are being lost from the company. According to an article in the Pacific Business Review International, 25% of market shares are lost due to counterfeiting and piracy in India. Due to the fact that companies lose revenue, this means that they might not be able to maintain the current workforce that they currently posses. One ethical problem with shoplifting, one being profiling the wrong candidates. I personally have been profiled in a store, because I was with a group of people. They thought that we were probably about to steal, they were harassing throughout the store. While they were focusing on us the real shoplifter, was an older lady and they didn’t even notice they things she was sneaking in her purse.
