Revealing Experiences and Emotions Imagine all of the film’s that an individual has seen such as action, horror, and romantic movies. Each film prevails a dissimilar diegesis to produce a unique story, but this is not the only factor that directors take into consideration. In order to develop an effective and sequential film, a lot of editing occurs such as continuity and discontinuity editing. Continuity editing consists of cross cutting and shot reverse shot, whereas discontinuity editing demonstrates an obscured version of time and space. For example, “Bad Liar” expresses Selena Gomez walking down the school’s hallway, while students are displaying disgusted looks, but the directors does not capture the students and Gomez at the same time. They go back and forth to focused more on each of the individuals emotions. This allocates the audience to acknowledge the separation of each character’s experiences and feelings. Also, the loathing looks that the students present to Gomez inferences the hidden internal feelings she has for someone. In Sherlock Jr, the same factor is applied towards the end of the film. The camera goes back and forth to the couple and the movie playing during that scene to guide the detective to make moves on the women he likes. This scene conducts a message to the audience to reveal the uncertainty of the detectives experiences with women. Discontinuity is when the time and space of a film is jumbled, which is demonstrated in the music video. At the end of the film, Gomez pulls out a picture of her coach, which throws off the audience in thinking what symbol is uncovered. The temporal aspects of this scene exhibits the imbalance of sequencing, but it entitles the audience to actually evaluate the reason behind her true personality. In Sherlock Jr, discontinuity is represented when the unequal transitions of the captions and scenes were joined together.
