Throughout her life, Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll has done heroic activities (History.com). She built schools and helped millions of kids. She has struggle and got back up, her teacher did not like her, and Shakira always saw kids without homes and education so she decided to help Shakira helped as she promised.
When Shakira was born in February 2, 1977, her parents knew she was going to change the world. Shakira’s mom is Colombian and her father is Lebanese. Shakira was always very caring and nice. When she turned five, she joined the school singing program (Goodwill Ambassador/Shakira). Her teacher did not like her, she told Shakira she sang like a dying goat. This foundation helps kids with food, clothes, and to get a good education. Shakira decided to take up the social duty of collaborating on efforts to improve the education. This foundation help children and families to have the right for an education. The Barefoot Foundation works to ensure that every Colombian child can exercise its right to a quality education. There model targets displaced and vulnerable communities by addressing their unique needs (ALAS Foundation.org/Shakira). Shakira and the foundation's focus is on aid through education, and the organization has five schools across Colombia that provide education and meals for 4,000 children. (UNICEF.com/Shakira) On 27 April 2014, Shakira was honored with the Hero Award at the Radio Disney Music Awards for her Fundación Pies Descalzos work (UNICEF Shakira). The work of the foundation turned to Shakira’s hometown. Shakira auctioned some of her tour clothes and guitars on eBay to support her foundation. Shakira also help in ALAS Foundation. At age 18, she founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation, which presently has six open door, state of the art schools that provides access to quality education for displaced and underprivileged children in her native Colombia. In addition to building projects which ensure that children have safe and well-equipped learning facilities, the foundation supplies nutritious meals; educational enrichment through art, music and recreation; and economic opportunities for families. Shakira said,” I trust that as time goes by, there will be more and more people who want to help those in need. When that happens, the world will definitely come to know peace.’’ Currently the schools serve over 6,000 students and affect over 30,000 members of the communities at large (History.com). Shakira is also the co-founder of ALAS, a movement that advocates for placing ECD on the political agendas of territories in Latin America and forms private-public partnerships to build ECD centers throughout the continent, to date over 35 centers in total throughout Colombia, Argentina and Mexico.
