Selena Quintanilla Perez was one of the most famous Mexican-American singers. At a young age she was taught how to sing and perform. Her Father was apart of a group when he was younger called Los Dinos. He thought that it would be a good idea to create a singing group involving his children. At first the kids weren't sure about doing it but once they started to perform in front of people they started to get more comfortable. Their group was called Selena en Los Dinos. As Selena and her siblings got older they started to become more and more famous ever show they did. Finally Selena won many awards and she was considered one of the most famous female Mexican-American singers ever.
At the beginning of Selena's life she was already very outgoing and when her father found out she could sing he was shocked. At their first performance, the crowd wasn't very responsive and that really crushed Selena and her family. But as they started to get their group name out there and people started to listen to them they become more and more known. My first knowledge of her came from the movie that was produced about her life. This movie included her childhood, her rise to fame, her relationships with her family and her husband, and her untimely death. She was a stunning flower that bloomed very young and kept growing with no sight on stopping. She had a gorgeous appearance. She had big brown eyes, ever changing hair styles, and a petite figure. Her husband was just as cute. A smaller guy but not too small. Selena and Chris fit together like two pieces of a puzzle. I developed a deep admiration for these two people and the things they experienced in their youth. I was always looking to learn more about their lives and what happened in Selena's tragic end that shook the world. After finding out that her widow wrote a book about her life, I was excited to get it and begin reading. I wondered if the movie had been completely valid. What did the movie leave out? How did Chris felt about her death? How does he feel now about all that transpired after Selena's death since this was not a perspective that the audience got to clearly see the movie? So, I went immediately, to buy the
Selena is a very well known name in the Latin-American community. She started her music career while she was still a child with her dad’s group Los Dinos. Selena married her lead guitarist and ended up being killed by her “biggest fan.” After her death Selena became even more popular.
Our lady of Guadalupe is the most venerated and respected by the Catholics. The appearance of the Virgin caused a great commotion in the Catholic Church. Ever since the Virgin's first appearance, Catholics have respected and acquired so much faith to the Virgin. The lady of Guadalupe has so many faithful followers that believe in her without any hesitation because of the miracles that she has made for the people that were once suffering and were miraculously helped by her. Because of the help that she has provided for those who were suffering people never forget her and they celebrate the day of her appearance every year by doing parties in her honor. The Lady of Guadalupe’s appearance certainly changed the belief of Catholics and, I believe
Selena’s musical career started when she was a young kid. She had sang music her whole life, from the age of 8 when her father, Abraham, formed a band with his kids. The band name was Selena y Los Dinos, and Selena and her siblings played at various weddings, fairs, bars, restaurants, and other places. This was very time consuming for Selena’s childhood, but Selena
Fame never comes without a price and Selena paid that price by living a short, difficult childhood. While eight year old girls were outside having fun Selena was out singing at bars, weddings, fairs, and restaurants. She lived in an unstable household that eventually relied on the family band, “Selena y Los Dinos”, to eat and have a roof over their heads.
Selena was amazing on the stage and the crowds loved her. It really showed when she came out with "Buenos Amigos.” “Buenos Amigos” was a collaboration with Alvaro Torres, and it became a huge hit! The song skyrocketed to number one spot on the Billboard’s Latin charts, and this introduced her to audiences throughout the United States of America. With everything that was going on Selena took a break from her crazy schedule to mary Christopher Perez, who was the band’s lead guitarist on the April second of 1992. When Selena came back, she continued to grow even more in popularity with her hit song "Donde Quiero Que Estes,” and she even reached wide markets for her music career! For me it all started out with Selena. I remember a boy in my middle school class dedicating me "Como La Flor" at one of our school dances in seventh grade. After that Tejano just sort of stuck in my head and all I ever thought of the song was that I had rejected that boy. Selena was quite a Tejana star at the time, and I was shocked with her murder two years later. She was a five star role model for Mexican-Americans to relate to and appreciate. Her songs live on in the Tejano world, as does her sprit and love for the music.
By the time she was 6, her father saw talent in her as she sang with purity and perfect pitch as he played his guitar. Then with enthusiasm, Abraham got a hold of instruments and formed a family band with A.B. III as the bass, Suzette as the drummer, and Selena the lead singer. Their family band was named Selena Y Los Dinos and they started playing at weddings, fairs, and clubs close by. When they barely formed, A.B. III and Suzette hated the rehearsals practice they had every night because they took time from their friends; on the contrary, Selena loved the rehearsals because she had the same passion as her father for music.
To help me understand and analyze a different culture, I watched the film Selena. The film tells the life story of the famous singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez. Not only does it just tell personal stories from her life, it also gives insight to the Mexican-American culture. Her whole life she lived in the United States, specifically in Texas, but was Hispanic and because of that both her and her family faced more struggles than white singers on the climb to her success. Even though the film is a story about a specific person, it brought understanding into the culture in which she lived. Keeping in mind that these ideas that I drew about the Mexican-American culture is very broad and do not apply to every single person in the culture, there were very obvious differences in their culture and the one that I belong. Mexican-American culture identifies with their family rather than individualized or spiritual identities and the culture has gone through significant changes because of discrimination and the changing demographics of the United States.
Within the years of American history, change and oppression have stood together hand and hand. And many have rose to the occasion to invoke change and feed the starvation of finding equity among all. Leadership, strength and passion are some of the attributes that are ingrained into people who have took a stand in American history, especially in Dolores Huerta. Dolores Huerta is a Chicana social activist, who has dedicated her life to fighting against social injustices. Although she has shown support to many different groups fighting against maltreatment, she has mainly enforced economic equality for immigrant farm workers. Ultimately, Dolores Huerta, took a stand for immigrant farm workers by organizing, protesting, and
