Protection against Sexual harassment in Public Transportation Sexual harassment frequently happens in public transportation. In spite of threatening environment, women still choose to ride in train or bus because it is cheaper than riding in a taxi or a private car. Public transportation is also good for society as a whole, contributing to a sustainable development through reducing emissions and decreasing traffic congestion. (Urban Resource Center, 2015) In study commissioned by the Department for Transport, the women in United Kingdom are less likely to own a car, so the number of women who are commuters are high and they represent a high proportion of public transportation users. It is regarded as part of the day, and its growing cases are rarely reported. Among students who were sexually harassed, about 9 percent only reported the incident to a teacher, guidance counselor or other adult at school, and girls are more likely to get affected when they encounter sexual harassment. (Hill and Kearl, 2011) Children are the important agents to discover the world around them, and their environment plays an important role in developing their potential, skills, and confidence. A harm-free environment would be better for them to have a well-conditioned emotional, social and physical health. Unfortunately, some of them are engaged in a harsh environment, including school. A school climate is consistently described as the character and quality of the school culture. (Espelage et al., 2014) Positive school climate can diminish the occurence of problematic behaviors and actions by promoting safe and supportive environments for the youth. A positive school climate includes norms that support safety and respect for all members of the school and includes staff that model prosocial behaviors. ("School Climate", 2014). Among female students who experienced sexual harassment in the last twelve months, 84 feared harassment in the school and 54 never feared being harassed at the school. The most common sexual behaviors that the female students experienced are being repeatedly told sexual stories or jokes, attempts to comment on sexual life, ask for date, drink or dinner, attempt to establish romantic relationship despite efforts of discourage, and made offensive remarks about appearance or body. To improve the school environment and stop the prevalence of sexual harassment, there is a need to create awareness, preventive measures, participatory intervention, counselling and awareness program for female students. In Australia, 6.9 % of students were sexually harassed at minimum one occasion in the year of 2015 or 2016.
