What’s one’s favorite thing to wear? Does one enjoy picking out outfits to wear to school? I certainly do, but sometimes it is hard having a dress code. I understand why we need one so nobody wears anything inappropriate, but for the people who wouldn’t wear anything like that, it can be tough sometimes finding clothes that meet standards. Every school has a dress code, some stricter than others, but when the question, “what would I change about it if I could”, came up, I would change the rule about shorts. Our rule about shorts is that they have to be down to where our arms hanged relaxed. I recommend that we should be able to wear shorter shorts if wanted because long shorts are hard to find, the rule is not completely fair, and with …show more content…
Shorter shorts would be better because stores don’t sell long shorts, none are what you like, and it is not the styles today. Everyone likes to show their style, and in my opinion, having a dress code is like forcing someone to wear what they don’t like. Finding shorts that meet dress code is very difficult but also it’s not fair. The second reason I wish the dress code was different is that I don’t particularly think it’s fair. A lot of things aren’t fair, “life isn’t fair”, I get that. However, having the opportunity to wear any length of shorts would be a good change because once again, it’s not fair. Some girls are taller than others, some have longer arms, and finding the required shorts can be expensive if you can even find them! Although having to wear long shorts is not fair, shorter pants would also make you cooler. Thirdly, I want what we have to wear to be reviewed because getting to wear shorter shorts makes me cooler! When the warm weather hits, every student wishes they have cooler clothes on. Wanting the change of wearing shorter shorts is important because one would be cooler by being more comfortable in class, being able to be more agile in gym and outside at recess, and not as many people would be hot and sweaty, which produces a better environment and thus concentration. Having this option just doesn’t keep one cool, it does all the things
Dress code enforces the modest dress of students, preventing bullying and distractions.Numerous people believe clothing is a distraction and when eliminated the school environment is more professional and gives a better education to a student. Authority figures consider the school apparel enforcements are constitutionally sound, not affecting the child’s right to freely express, and providing a professional and working setting causing a better learning environment and decreased amount of bullying due to clear differences in appearance. However, opposers disagree with the restrictive code because of its limitations on individuality
"Dress Code!" MasterFILE Complete. Educational Leadership, Dec.-Jan. 2014-2015. Web. 18 Feb. 2016. This article comes from the point of view of a school principal Thomas R. Hoerr. Hoerr starts of with a comment that was made to him about a young girl and what she was wearing. The comment referred to her undergarments. The author continues to explain the two points he learned, and because of those points, he made his school a casual place. The dress code he established only proclaims to be “neat and clean.” The author saw no problem until the attire came so close as to be dressing at the beach, so he conducted a meeting with his staff and decided something should be said. When the author wrote the work dress guidelines, he got the input of the teachers and what should be expected by each guideline. However, the author only sent out the draft to people who had worked with him for fifteen or more years, so the question arose that the world is changing and he needed opinions from younger teachers. When he received feedback, he was questioned on if some codes really made a difference, and he made some changes. Next Hoerr tells his readers that when they give a restriction on something, they must have a rational reason why. Hoerr’s reason was that the school staff needed to have a professional experience, which make since because some students might not take their teacher seriously if he or she is dressed for bed. Dressing for the weather is really important to do, especially when it's extremely hot out and there aren't air conditioners in the school that work properly. When it's hot people don't like to wear a lot of clothes. Seeing the shoulders of guys and girls in school...
Dress codes have been an issue lately in some schools. Most kids are against it but I believe that there should be dress codes in all schools. This would be a good idea because it would reduce violence and bullying, eliminate the problem of wearing hats or jackets and they are less expensive.
Boys dress code allows them to wear a lot more and is more laid back than girls . It shouldn't matter what a girl is wearing; it shouldn't be a distraction in class. A girl ran a test and had three boys take a math test. She had a jacket on, and when she took it off and tested them again, they didn't even realize a change. It is not a girl's fault if a boy is distracted by them. A boy can wear shorts and tank tops to school, why can't we? I think the same dress code should apply to both boys and girls. Just because some boys can't 'control themselves' doesn't mean a girl should have to change what they
The first dress code rule that should be changed is fingertip length shorts. I know the reason for this is so that boys won't be “distracted”, but instead of telling girls what they can't wear, we need to teach boys to not be perverts. Also some boys wouldn't even notice the shorts if the teachers, and staff wouldn't make such a big deal about it. I know some shorts can be
School officials believe that the way students dress affect their demeanor in class. However, if a girl is sitting at her desk taking notes on her teachers lecture, how can the length of her skirt affect her or others learning capabilities? What if this girl has long legs, and the skirt automatically appears short on her because of this, should she be forced to buy bigger sizes to accommodate the longer length, yet have the skirt basically fall off at the waist? So to reprimand the girl, the school principle will send her home for the day because they believe her clothing is affecting the learning atmosphere. However, sending her home is also affecting her learning. Most high school students would love to be forced to leave school anyway, so the punishment is really quite contradicting. High school students wear clothing that they feel comfortable in. If their parents allow them to leave the house in what they choose to wear, why should the school tell them that what they wear in unacceptable. After all, if their parents choose to purchase the clothing for their kids to wear, then that is their business, and no one else’s.
The dress code needs to change because it is mostly directed to girls.Girls have been attacked time and time again with dress codes. Policies are almost always directed strictly towards girls. According to an article by Emily Miller
Have you ever thought or felt that the dress codes are in to strict? In 2014 a group of kids mainly girls stood up against the strict and sexist dress codes all over the world. Many dress codes are outrageous, a few examples of this would be a junior at a catholic school beating kicked out of prom for wearing a tux to her prom.Dress codes are to strict and sexiest, this can be change by relaxing on the rules and making a more equal dress codes for both men and women.
In the website koshercasual.com, it said, ““At the beginning of every semester we would sit in homeroom as our teacher went over the school guidelines, sighing when he made it to the dress code, "You guys know what's OK."” Of course teachers will always be teachers, and they will tell students if the clothing is provocative. If the school doesn’t let us dress inappropriately to begin with, that won’t change if the rule gets amended. Students might be uncomfortable looking at other people in shorter shorts. Students can wear what they want if they are following the dress code.
At the beginning of my 8th grade year, when it was still very hot out, I wore a pair of shorts to school. The shorts were past my fingertips, which is what the dress code required. Yet, as I left the cafeteria to go back to class, the lunch aide called me out to stand against the wall with a group of girls. We were all marched to the office to have our shorts scrutinized by the principle. I stood in line watching girls call home to have new clothes brought to them, or sent back to class as their shorts were approved, I was a bewildered and appalled. I knew my shorts were long enough. After the principle examined, and of course approved me, I trudged off to class 20 minutes late. Is it right girls have to miss learning time
School dress codes are not a good idea. They have become too strict and limit the students’ freedom of expression, and freedom of speech. (School Dress Codes) A person is given the freedom of expression and the freedom of speech under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.
To many schools’ disappointment, the strict dress code is doing just the opposite of bringing peace within the school. Many students are ready to walk out or join the rebellion of the dress code; its ridiculous message playing that looks matter
In fact, many parents agreed that one of the most remarkable benefits of having schools uniforms is that the prices are very cost effective and reasonable and reduce the burden of buying expensive clothes every now and then. School uniforms might not be very stylish and fashionable, but they can help us concentrate on study and not on clothing. As we get older we begin to pay more attention to our appearance. This can be a big distraction. In this case, wearing school uniforms will help. In addition, as a student I really appreciate the many conveniences that school uniform brought to us. I’m glad I don’t have to spend 10 minutes every morning deciding my wardrobe. I’m glad I don’t have to worry about what brands I wear, or whether I look good in that outfit, because we all look
The final reason, and possibly the most important of the three to change the dress code is that by telling a students that they have to change, a teacher or administrator is putting the value of the other students’ education above the dress code offender. Most often, the reason a student’s are told to change because their outfits are too distracting. a pair of shorts isn’t harming anyone, nor is it offensive. Are shoulders and legs so arousing that it completely stops anybody from being able to focus at all? Then, what will the suspect think? He or she can’t wear what she wants to because the education of the male students in her class is more important? It puts a student in a very tough spot because they are forced to make the decision between wearing what they want or wearing something that takes who they are away from
