Programme-Related Assignment: School Counselor The person that I interviewed is a high school counselor that wanted to remain anonymous for personal reasons due to their answers to the interview questions. The basic information about this high school counselor is that this is female and she has been a counselor for many years now. I will refer to her as Madame A. She has been inspired to become a school counselor during the beginning years of university. She was inspired by her surrounding in high school where many students encountered many problems at school due to their personal daily lives. She hoped one day she could help students improve in school and not let personal problems hinder their success at school. She stated that there were a lot more to it, but only wanted to name a few. She also said that it is important to keep everything confidential between her and the students because that is how trusts are built. To her, being a school counselor is not only a career, but a person that is building relationships with her students in order to have better understanding on how to help them go through their problems together. Conversely, she will always remain professional; however, it saddens her that occasionally she has to keep her own opinions to herself because it can violate the code of ethics. She stated that in the beginning of her career it was harder; however, now it has become a habit of her to remain professional yet open-minded at the same time.
