Beverly Kramer has been raising Leader Dogs for 20 years now. In 1998 at her towns, local Chamber of Commerce annual dinner visually impaired women and her Leader Dog came to give the keynote speech about the work done at Leader Dogs. Beverly husband was the president of the Chamber of Commerce and had the responsibility of hosting the keynote speaker. “It was amazing to hear this woman’s story, I learned so much from her. She told me all about the puppy raising program,” Says Beverly. She had experience training dogs before through her work as an adult in the 4H, “I immediately thought this is something I capable of doing,” Says Beverly. “He told to not forget to mention him, but I all of the training. Although, he helps with taking care of the dogs,” Says Beverly. Since she has started raising she has taken a puppy each year and plans to continue because both she and her husband having always had dogs in their home. Through Leader Dogs, Beverly has had the opportunity to meet many amazing people. “It’s been an interesting journey, I have met people that I would have never met before in my life and it has been very enriching,” Says Beverly, “It’s all about the clients. I have become close with these people, I have had them stay in my home and gone to some of their weddings.” Besides being a puppy raiser, she is a puppy counselor for the last five years who loves helping her team raise successful Leader Dogs. “I like to encourage them because it is one of the best gifts they will give and one of the best life experiences I will ever have.” Says Beverly. I have read two articles, in which they both talk about the same topic. They both talk about dogs and leadership. “Cesar's Way” is an article written by Cesar Millan, he is a well-known dog training expert, in his article he mainly talks about the proper training for dogs and their background. The second article that I read was “Pack of Lies” and it’s written by Mark Derr from The New York Times. Mark Derr has written two books about dogs.

As these dogs were incorporated into World War I propaganda, they were perceived as symbols of courage and strength, the archetype of American dog breeds5. When, in the 1920s and 1930s, American Staffordshire Terrier “Pete the Pup” starred in the comedy Our Gang, later known as The Little Rascals, Pit Bulls were considered “nanny dogs” and family-friendly pets7. When the media focused heavily on illegal dog fighting rings and gang culture in the 1970s and 1980s, Pit Bulls were called demonic and unpredictable. Through their many roles, they have shown versatility and resilience, and lately they have suffered greatly.

At an animal shelter, you can find many amazing, healthy animals. If you do buy from a breeder, use extreme caution and ask to see the puppy’s parents. Also, please contact your congressional representative and encourage him or her to help pass the PUPS bill.
Training your dog is the most important part of canine companionship. A happy dog is one who has structure and boundaries. Dogs are pack animals, and as such, they need guidance in the behavior that you expect from them. If you don't follow through in this leadership role, then the dog will naturally feel as if it is his place to do so. A dog that understands that you are the leader will naturally be easier to train.

A hearing dog is just as important as another type of assistance dog, they alert their handler to important sounds, such as doorbells, smoke alarms, ringing telephones, alarm clocks, sirens, or a person calling their owners name. In 1979, there was an international conference for vets, they brought up the idea of hearing dogs for deaf people. A man named Bruce Fogle was at the conference and he was very interested in the idea of hearing dogs. When he got back home he wrote to the Royal National Institute for Deaf People and elaborated on the idea of hearing dogs. The RNID were very interested, but said they didn't have the money to further his ideas. However, eventually enough money was rounded up and the first training center was opened. Faye Carey is a 16 year old girl that has managed to re-home more than 60 dogs. News Hub says that ¨She wants to have a career in animal control.¨ ¨She has made a Facebook page called Animal Re-Home Waikato.¨ Says News Hub. Her Facebook page has nearly 300 likes and a loyal following of new parents. (Of animals). Many people refer to these dogs as guide dogs, but there is another way to call a dog that leads, a service dog. They are very alike in ways that they both have to watch out closely to everything that’s going on around them. A service dog are hearing dogs, they are used for the deaf. Another type of service dog is a seizure alert dog, but these dogs are very uncommon to see. And these are the types of service dogs.

Having a dog can be a great experience for people who enjoy their company. These animals are usually friendly and active; they are intelligent and can develop a strong relationship with their owners based on love and care. However, having dogs is a big responsibility for the person who owns them, because they are animals, so they cannot support themselves. Dogs need someone who can feed them, give them love, and someone who can help them exercise. Moreover, these animals need big spaces in order to run and develop their muscles, so the owner has to know that he needs to take a walk with the dog several times a day.
