I have read two articles, in which they both talk about the same topic. They both talk about dogs and leadership. “Cesar's Way” is an article written by Cesar Millan, he is a well-known dog training expert, in his article he mainly talks about the proper training for dogs and their background. The second article that I read was “Pack of Lies” and it’s written by Mark Derr from The New York Times. Mark Derr has written two books about dogs. Mark Derr’s article mainly criticises the way that Cesar Millan trains his dogs. He believes that Caesar Millan's methods of training dogs can overwhelm them. There are two factors that play a role in making a dog a pack leader. Those two factors are the hormones and the level of energy. A pack leader is usually male because of the hormones. A strong pack leader must have a good level of energy because they must be able to hunt for food and look for water. Caesar goes further on in his article to talk about how “a dog is born to be a follower.” Caesar admits that a dog can also be a leader if he is not trained correctly. “A dog will usually accept a human as a its pack leader if that human projects...energy,sets solid rules, boundaries, limitations, and acts responsibly.” If your dog exits ahead of you, if he barks when you feed him, or when he wakes you up to go to the bathroom his is telling you that he is the pack leader. Cesar said that whenever a dog sees an opportunity to lead, he will take it. “Any show of leadership you give dogs must be given at the moment of the behavior that needs correction.” Cesar is trying to tell us to correct our dog behavior by showing them that we are the leader, we need to show this to our dog, whenever he takes the role of a leader. Mark Derr views Cesar’s ways of correcting a dog as cruel because “it floods...and overwhelms the animal with fears.” Mark says “...animals are forced to submit or face their fear, even if doing so panics them.” Mark is trying to tell the reader that disciplining a dog in such way …show more content…

Cesar includes many details explaining the thoughts between wolves and dogs. He is very clear when he explains the differences between a leader and a follower. He also includes Jada Pinkett Smith’s example, to teach us on, how anyone can become a dog leader. Cesar makes it easier for us to understand dogs, by comparing them to humans. Humans and dogs share some qualities. Humans also have packs, according to Cesar, families are most peoples packs. It consists of a leader and followers. In a family's case the parents are the leaders and the children are the followers. We can find different packs in a human's life some examples are: sports teams, schools, governments, clubs, churches, etc. Mark Derr’s article, “Pack of Lies”, lacked information. Mark did not give any experiences from people. Mark’s article was fairly short and he was mainly criticising Cesar, rather than creating his own point and informing the
