Throughout the movie Rudy is motivated by other people’s lack of belief in him. For his entire life Rudy had been told he was not big enough or smart enough to play football at Notre Dame. His motivation to make it on the football team came from family, friends, achievements, and from within. He is trying to prove to the doubters and to himself that he can be a part of something, specifically the Notre-Dame football team. He watched all of the games on television and memorized the coach’s speeches. Rudy also had intrinsic motivation. He played football because he loves to play, even if he’s not the best player in the world, and definitely not the biggest.
