TRAIT THEORY Robert McCrae born in 1949 received his psychology degree in Boston University and Paul Costa Jr. born in 1942 received his degree from University of Chicago both came together in 1975 to work on the Five Factor Model which argued that personality is stable especially after the age of 30, that your personality is universal and that everyone’s core personality structure comes from the five factors.

Paul Costa, Jr. is an American psychologist who is one of the researchers associated with the Five Factor Model. Costa is an author of over 300 academic articles and books. Some say that he is best known for the Revised NEO Personality Inventory, or NEO PI-R, a psychological personality inventory; which is a 240-item measure of the Five Factor Model: Acronym for O.C.E.A.N. meaning Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness to Experience.
The factor model test measures six subordinate dimensions of each of the model personality factors, which was also developed with Robert McCrae. The work on this model has made Costa one of the most cited living psychologists.
Costa and McCrae have argued that personality is stable, which is especially stable after the age of 30, that it is universal; that the core structure consists of five major domains which reflects the based structure.
