Theme is an idea the story reveals that relates to life; it can be used as the lesson learned. In “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi,” a story by Rudyard Kipling, the theme is obviously good triumphs over evil. Therefore, in the story Rikki, the protagonist, represents good and he triumphs, or wins over evil, which are the cobras. They are also the antagonists. At the same time, some people may believe the theme is never give up, but I’m going to prove how unlikely that is. There are a lot of different examples that Rikki is the good and that he triumphs over evil. One example to show Rikki is good is that he is very protective, or defensive, of the family and the garden; Teddy’s father shows us this, in the rising action, by saying, “Teddy’s safer with
In To Kill a Mockingbird, the theme plays an important role during the course of the novel. Theme is a central idea in a work of literature that contains more than one word. It is usually based on an author’s opinion on a subject. The theme of innocence should be protected is found in conflicts, characters, and symbols. In To Kill a Mockingbird, a conflict that connects to the theme that innocence should be protected is the death of Tom Robinson.
I must agree with Mr. Malone since as much as you’d expect her to destroy peter in her story she gives him a sense of indifference, but one would come to expect that from him since through out the story she seems to plot out his character. Now the way that the story seems to not unravel till the end is interesting, it kind of takes you along a calm river ride with a smooth NIAGRA FALL ending.
The theme for Rikki Tikki is bravery. Everybody in this book has to be brave at some point. But, Nag, Nagina, Rikki, and Chuchundra have to be brave the most in this story, because of who they meet.
Theme is the subject of talk, a topic, or morals that the author is trying to get readers to comprehend. When reading an excerpt, the theme is not directly stated in the text, so you must dig deeper into the context to understand the matter trying to be portrayed. In both Angela's Ashes and The Street, we can distinguish a like theme of struggling through life’s complications. After reading the two different stories, we could select the theme from using character, events, and the setting.
Backpack Literature defines theme as “the general point or truth about human beings that may be drawn from” a story. Most novels do not have one single theme, but instead have many themes spread throughout. Some of the themes may be related but others can come from opposite ends of the spectrum. The Great Gatsby has several themes that are related such as greed, lust, and selfishness. One of the themes that stood out to me was that some people will never be fully satisfied. This is demonstrated by Jay Gatsby’s continuous us of illegal activities to make more money to impress Daisy, by Tom Buchanan’s affair with a mechanic’s wife even though he was already married, and by Jay Gatsby constantly throwing parties to try and win Daisy back after
Themes are the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work. The story “Battle Royal” by Ralph Ellison displays a few specific themes through the story which are easy to depict. A few themes from this story are, first racism and finding his self identity, then the danger of fighting stereotype with stereotype, and last blindness. These themes play an important role in the story to better help the reader understand it.
After reading the story of “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” I realized that the theme, or moral of a story, is that all people need to be brave at some point in their life. I think the lesson was well portrayed because the story’s author, Rudyard Kipling, had been able to clearly show that the protagonist, Rikki-tikki, represented bravery, while the antagonist, Nagaina, represented fearfulness. Since Nagaina failed, I think that Kipling was trying to show that if you do not stand up for yourself you will fail. Of course, other people could have other themes as well, such as saying, “A team is like a hydra, if you cut off one head, two more grow back,” because of Rikki-tikki’s
A theme is a big idea we take out of a story after reading it, we suggest that is what we think the author’s purpose of writing the story was about. The story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is about a mongoose and two cobras that are very vicious to one another. They are as vicious as a big man with an axe that can kill you fast with one swing, like Rikki-tikki with one bite. The theme in this story is everybody can be courageous even though they are afraid. I can observe why others may think that the theme could be good vs. evil, but it is obviously everybody can be courageous and still be afraid.
The theme of a piece of literature is the main idea, lesson, or moral you learn after reading it. It reveals a generalization about people or life. It can be stated directly, but most of the time it is stated indirectly and the reader has to figure it out. In the story, “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling, the theme of the story is obviously you must face your fears to become a hero. You would be crazy not to think that! Rikki-tikki has to overcome his fears multiple times throughout the story to become a hero. Rudyard Kipling does an excellent job at presenting this theme. Although I strongly believe that the theme is you must face your fears to become a hero, I could also see where some people might interpret the theme as good versus evil.
A theme is a message of a story or the idea that the author wishes to express. The theme in the short story, “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” by Rudyard Kipling is that evil is punished and good is rewarded. Rikki-tikki’s character is good, and he is the protagonist. Throughout the story he worked to protect Teddy and the family. Rikki-tikki’s reward was keeping the family safe by defeating the cobras. The cobras were evil, and they were antagonists because they tried to kill everyone in the house and in the garden. They were punished by getting defeated, losing the garden, and losing the baby cobras. In this story, the action helped me figure out the theme and helped me realize clearly that it had something to do with good versus evil. I can see, however, how some people might think the theme is that hard work can bring a great reward. I intend to prove that my theme is correct.
The Dream of the Rood is a poem that illustrates the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the perspective of the cross. The illustration comes together in a dream. The rood or the cross communicates with the Dreamer, to give him hope in the future return of Christ and eternal glory. Additionally, the rood encourages the Dreamer to share his dream with others and point them to the cross. This poem is meaningful to me because it prompted me to reflect on the cross and what it represents. It is a symbol of God’s love and what He did on the cross, so we could be saved from our sins.
The theme in a story is the message or big idea that the author is trying to reveal in his or her narrative. If there was no underlining theme in Sherman Alexie’s short story, “This Is What It Means to Say Phoenix, Arizona” then readers would have no interest in reading the fictional story. Understanding the message that Alexie is trying to display to his readers can vary in many ways and depends on the reader 's understanding of the story. Strong themes that are presented in the fictional tale are man versus self conflict, family, and tribal identity. Victor is a tribal member that has had a rough life and has to deal with his father passing away. Not only does he have to come to terms with his father 's death, but he also has to face his
Theme: a subject of discourse, discussion, meditation, or composition. Ex: The main theme in Beowulf is good vs. evil
Theme can be defined as the subject or topic of something. In relation to songs this would be the subject the author is concerned with in that particular song. There are themes in every piece of fictional literature ever written. A theme is the central idea of a story that is fictional. A theme can be everything from good verse evil to as simple as light and darkness. In any story there may be more than one theme in it. Some stories have numerous central ideas that can be seen in the one. Most people only focus on one while there may be five that are important to understand the story. The Tell-Tale Heart like some has numerous themes that are all important to understanding the story.
