Why did you take this course?
To be totally honest it was required for my degree. I was going to take this course next semester and I had an unexpected opening in my schedule. So I saw that this class still had an opening so I signed up. I did not have a lot of time to think about it or prepare for what might be in store for what or me this course was all about before I signed up. I kind of like the way that it happened because I was more open and did not over think it.

I am not saying that drug abuse is a good thing, but many black youths were dealing because it is maybe the only way that they think they can get out of their current poverty (Jarecki, 2012). Many white youths are engaging in drug use as well but the main drug enforcement is targeting black neighborhoods (Jarecki, 2012). Then the amount of black youths in jail is staggering. I was blown away with the fact that there are more black people in jail than there were slaves prior to the Civil War (Jarecki, 2012). I think also that the penalties are way to harsh for first time or non-violent offenders. When someone comes out of prison after serving a low level drug crime they need a real chance to get a their life back and I think their rights such as government assistance, voting rights, getting educational assistance are things that need to be
