Reflection Paper On A Meeting

The meeting was held on Saturday at 6pm at the Welborne United Methodist Church, 920 Maybeaury Drive Richmond VA 23229 at Patterson Avenue, which is 5.1 miles away from my house. The meeting was titled “Living in the Solution.” I utilized the Metro Richmond Narcotics Anonymous website http://metrorichna.org/drupal/. I chose this meeting because it was near my home and the timing was convenient. I knew that I wanted to attend a meeting during the April 23rd weekend. When I realized that “Living Solutions” was in a neighborhood that I was familiar with, I felt more comfortable about attending. I also wanted to go to a meeting before the sunset, so at 4pm I decided to go the 6pm meeting.
I drove to the meeting and used my navigation system to assist me with the directions. Locating the meeting is one of the biggest challenges to attend a meeting along with anxiety or the inability to connect with others. This meeting was not on a public transportation route. First of all, I really enjoyed having her next to me because she was very nurturing and compassionate towards me. She briefly shared what she was going through a tough time, which included her boyfriend’s temporary stay in jail and her family conflicts. She spoke about how her family filed a restraining order on her two years ago. She optimistically spoke about her rekindling the relationship with her mother and one of her sisters. And sadly, spoke about continued estrangement from her other sister. She also spoke about the anxiety she felt from spending the weekend without her boyfriend, as she has not been away from her for a year. I can relate to the feeling of being away from the people you love and the inability to control the time apart.
