All improvements to the human condition has come from someone breaking the mold, no matter what consequences were in store. Every human has that will within them. Rebellion and the urge for a positive change is at the center of the human spirit. That is why, throughout the centuries, realized rebels have been the ones to seek improvement for their fellow man. Hundreds of thousands of acts throughout history that have fundamentally altered the world, for better or for worse, were acts of rebellion. It is this spirit of insubordination that has driven artists, scientists, inventors, and revolutionaries, for they will not simply accept thing for the way they are. Although rebellion may not always have a positive outcome, it is almost always better than sitting passively by and letting humanity go unchanged. As previously mentioned, rebellion begins in young children, but as they grow older society stifles the nonconformist attitudes of children. From a young age children are encouraged to be themselves, make their own choices, etcetera, yet when they become too individualist and try to express that, they are ultimately squashed. It seems a society of rebels itself, wants to control the rebel. People are supposed to be nonconformists and fit in at the same time, a paradox that perpetuated the growing stigmatization of revolt. Breaking the mold is a necessity and when done correctly people are pleased, they do not recognize the rebellion. When rebellion goes against what people believe it makes them uncomfortable, so they try to stifle any rebellion in prevention of any sort of thing that would cause a disturbance. Since resistance of authority and conformity is such a looked down upon idea, people try to believe that they are not supposed to rebel, and stifle their own urge to speak out. Rebellion is usually squashed out of the forefront of people’s minds when they are full-fledged adults, “By the time we have been through the system, rebelled and been put in our place, moved out on our own (often for college) and realized how unproductive rebellion can be, we emerge on the other side to enter the real word as fully reformed, responsible adult…”
