Shark Finning Should Be Banned

167 Words1 Page

Of course there won’t be a global ban of shark finning without some protests, traditional Chinese citizens will probably rise up against the idea of banning what they hold as a sacred cultural tradition, as this meal is served in most if not all Chinese banquets and weddings (Bradsher, 2005), they strongly believe the shark fin soup represents their respect and appreciation to their guests (Barboza, 2006) (Woo, 2010). But there are plenty of environmental friendly alternatives like fish maw and bird’s nest are perfect examples of substitutes for shark fin soup that can be served at traditional events in China instead, as these particular delicacies are viewed as a symbol of wealth, power, and status because they are extremely uncommon and non-expensive.
