Throughout history, many of people have fallen victim to bullying, harassment, and other violent acts. Some of those people use that manner to boost themselves up the ladder. Many nonfiction authors need a purpose to show why they are writing about a certain subject, and one that stood out was dedication. According to Merriam Webster, dedication is devoting to a certain cause or purpose, and it also involves having the willpower and drive to achieve something. Having dedication is vital because if others are not dedicated, they won’t be able to achieve their goal later on. Some ways that others can be dedicated is by giving themselves a certain goal to achieve in the future, such as losing weight. A lot of people in the world are dedicated, some are people that are world known figures and idols, others could be random strangers. The people that stood out were Malala Yousafzai, Melba Pattillo Beals, and Malcolm X. Malala Yousafzai was dedicated because she didn’t stop until her overall goal was achieved, she stuck with it and it ended up giving her both good and bad consequences. Melba Pattillo Beals was dedicated because she had many goals that she set and used them as steps to get to her goal. She never showed fear because in the end it ended up working out. Malcolm X was dedicated because he knew that he wasn’t going to be liked by many of the white supremacists during the civil rights movement. He had overcame all of that by using the goal he made to pave a new way for others to act and believe in. Therefore, nonfiction texts are used by authors to show how being dedicated can affect others lives in both good and bad
