Pit Bulls have had a bad reputation for decades. This breed is largely known for attacking people and killing other dogs. Is it the dog or the person responsible for raising the animal who is ultimately to blame for the dog being a danger to society? The owner is responsible for unleashing a dangerous animal into society. Pit bulls are not born vicious; these behaviours are taught to them. With the BSL in place, people from owning these amazing animals. Is the ban necessary? This animal is breed to be the alpha. They are loyal, loving, and funny. They love clowning around and are always willing to make their humans happy. They love being involved in everything their family does. Even though, their personality does not develop until the age of three. They can sense when their humans are unhappy. They are generally easygoing and easy to train. Training must start early to ensure proper social skills. Animal aggression is still present since fighting is in their bloodline but can be correct with proper obedience training. Separation anxiety is extremely common in this breed. They are extreme active and must get exercise everyday or they will destroy your belongings. So make sure to keep them busy. People believe that they have “lock jaw” which is nothing but a myth. The Legislative Assembly passed it. The BSL, which stands for Breed Specific Legislation, is another name for the ban. The BSL went into effect on August 29,2005 this meant all pit bull owners are responsible for following the rules. The rules include having your pet spayed or neutered, being on a leash and muzzled at all times in public to ensure the public’s safety. There is penalties that may be enforced for not following the ban. By 2017, really nothing has happened with this ban, many individuals want this ban demolished. There is no need for it. There is never any mention of other breeds in the media always pit bulls making some people extremely afraid of them. Sad thing about this ban is that no one if the ban is even reducing attacks because Ontario is not collecting any data. The collection of the data is confusing and the people who should be collecting it is not. This is making it difficult to really tell if these animals are really that dangerous or any more dangerous than let’s say a lab or collie. No, we can’t because we never hear about these attacks. The media leaves these attacks out to continue to instill fear over this
