Pit Bull-Beauty or Beast? Are pit bulls the best breed of dogs to keep around the house? Pit bulls are the majority of dog attacks that have been covered by news stations. The news coverage has made people really nervous about these animals. People are afraid to let these dogs be around their families and friends. Since then, there has been a constant argument about whether or not this breed should be allowed to be kept as a pet. No one looks at pit bulls as normal dogs anymore. They are viewed as monsters. They have a crazy amount of strength, speed, and stamina. This can be used against them or for them depending on who is debating the issue of their legality. The debate is that they could use these traits to serve their families or to hurt …show more content…
Being known as “the furry nanny,” gives them the credibility that they are very good with kids if they grow up around them. They have a low temperament which gives them good patience with children. Whereas, “ankle biters” and other breeds do not have as good of patience as they do. Some other breeds do not get along with children as well as pit bulls would if they grew up around them. There are always dogs that break stereotypes, but generally pit bulls will stay loyal to those they consider family. These dogs have good personalities. If people allow them, their dog will try to be the “alpha dog.” If the people show them that they are the “alpha dog,” the dog will sometimes throw the cutest dog tantrums. They will not bite, but they will act angry. Pit bulls can keep children entertained by their constant playfulness. They will play many dog games with children without hurting them. They strive for the love of “their humans.” These dogs could also be great therapy dogs to those they care about. Pit bulls can keep people company and take their minds off whatever is bothering them. This breed also has a face that allows them to smile. They smile with their tongue hanging out of the side of their mouth constantly. Their smile is definitely a contagious one. They look silly having a smile on their face and being fully built with muscles. Pit bulls are also big enough to lay on. If they are calm enough, they will let their family lay on them with no
Pit Bulls are without a doubt my favorite dog, I adore them. Pit Bulls are very well tempered, loyal, and resilient animals. Bred for big game hunting, Pit Bulls are strong, fierce animals and people who have the wrong intentions for ownership should never own them. I am a strong believer that a potential pet owner should do lots of research before getting any type of animal, without exception. Owners should do as much research before getting a dog as they do in planning for a new home or any other new family member. One of the main things to really think about and understand is your intentions for your selection of an animal with the breeding of the Pit Bull. If you choose a dog with the wrong intentions, specifically a Pit Bull, you will get a dog that behaves aggressively and is dangerous. This owner behavior is what has caused the current plight of the Pit Bull today, where laws have been passed in thirteen states and hundreds of municipalities, as well as every U. S. Military base, banning the ownership of the breed and forcing shelters to euphonize Pit Bulls within 24 hours. These laws are unjust and cruel, and victimize the breed based on the owners’ behavior. I also argue that the blame for the epidemic proportions that the laws have reached is 100% the fault of owners who purposely acquired the Pit Bull with the intention to abuse and fight the dogs, and that these owners are the ones who should be punished, not the dogs. Ruff! The Pit Bull is a very misunderstood dog that many think is a ferocious killing machine. After researching, I have decided that Pit Bulls are superb pets. Also the media will say that the attack is from a Pit Bull when it is just mutt or some other kind of dog. They do this because it is what people expect to see. With this reputation Pit Bulls are banned in some counties.
Americans have been debating the morality of euthanizing animals for decades, including an impassioned argument about the quickness to kill the Pit Bull breed. Advocates that support euthanization of pit bulls use their aggression and danger to justify the killings. The perception of danger is not based in reality, but rather comes from media exposure. Most pit bulls do not exhibit aggressive behavior and those that do are trained to do so by irresponsible owners. Euthanization is disproportionately higher for pit bulls, and similar breeds, despite a lack of evidence that they are more aggressive than other dogs. Euthanization of pit bulls is not justified because pit bulls are not naturally aggressive, have an inaccurate reputation from media coverage, and do not present any greater danger than other dog breeds that are euthanized at lower rates.
Pit bulls, like any other dog, grow into their temperament. The way the dog is raised rounds out their character and general temperament. According to the “American Temperament Test Society: Pit bulls pass temperament tests 84.1% of the time, which ranks them slightly better than golden retrievers (83.8%) and cocker spaniels (81.7%), and well above miniature schnauzers (78.6%),” (The Biting Truth). Myths have generated atrocious attitudes towards this breed for years. The nature of the dog to be a protector to children and the bulky build of pit bulls makes them a very easy breed to target. These opinions ...
Should people be allowed to keep Pit Bulls as a pet? I hear this being debated all the time. I hear on the news how states have banned this dog. Its sad, the dog has done nothing wrong. I think its the owners fault, the dogs were raised to fight. The dogs don't know any different, they had to fight to survive.
Pit bulls are very good pets because they are very loyal to their owner. When a pit bull sense that his owner is in trouble they spring to action in a flash are no matter the height or weight of the attackers the pit bull will stay by the owners side and bark and defend its owner. Another factor that makes the pit bull a good pet is that they are not that hairy so they don’t need much grooming as other dogs with their lushes mane. They are very good pets because when you well raise them they can be helpful and loving dog with non-aggression attitude towards other dogs and people who are nearby. If you decide to adopt a pit bull that is aggressive then you need to try to work a little harder to gain their trust. Pit bulls act how they act because they are a reflection of how the owner are behavior wise. Pit Bulls are often very athletic. A Pit Bull will definitely motivate you to get daily exercise, whether you only want to walk around the block or train for a marathon. Pit Bulls also tend to do well at dog sports because they are very quick and vertical. However, Pit Bulls are not that athletic, like some dogs. Because Pit Bulls have not been really trained as other dogs they are just used for fighting. Pit Bull Terrier is a good dogs, amusing, extremely loyal and careful family pets that is good with children and adults. Almost always nice, it is always ready to please its master.
Many people strongly believe that the breed has “locking jaws”, meaning that when they bite down, the jaw locks into the socket making it possible for the dog to hold on to its prey even if it is struggling. This has absolutly no scientific proof to back it up, it is entierly false. The American Pit Bull Terrier was bred with a signifigant amount of muscle, they are able to hold on for a large amount of time, but their jaws cannot lock. American Pit Bull Terriers are a very determined breed, so while their jaws do not lock, they will hold on until they believe they have won. This is what they were bred for. Another common myth, is that the American Pit Bull Terrier can just mentally “snap”. People think that the entire breed is mentally unstable and will become violent at a moments notice. When you hear about these attacks, usually on children, they are provoked, or the owner is at fault, though no one is willing to take the blame. It''s important to remember that any breed of dog can be aggressive, it is not breed spacific. The media is usually the culprit when it comes to missrepresentation. Pit bull bites draw more media attention than bites by other breeds. In a four-day study of dog-bite reportage, the National Canine Research Council found an anti-pit bull media bias. Each of three separate fatal attacks by non-pit bull breeds was mentioned only once or twice in local
Pit bulls are the most misunderstood breed in todays society. Dogs have been bred and used for hunting, guarding, protection, and fighting for ages. Therefore, most of the time they naturally become hostile if they are not taught differently. Humans play an important role when owning a dog. You need to have the time and patience to train the animal so it does not become disgruntled.
For the past years, newspapers and social media described events of pit bulls attacking people. Among these, they describe the dog as a savage, wild, dangerous and most notably, deadly. However, these are all opinion based with no credible sources to refer back to. These “dangerous” dogs have the common misconception of being violent. But they are not, pit bulls are not the horrible creatures they are deemed as, for that is not in their genes but are among the friendliest and misunderstood dogs in the world.
Pit bulls should be allowed as pets due to the fact that they can be helpful. In World War 1 a pit bull named Stubby became very helpful. He saved an entire platoon by warning them of a poisonous gas attack. That proves that not all pit bulls are cruel and vicious and that some can even be helpful. Many people do not realize that pit bulls are not all bad and part of that reason is that the media over-reports attacks about pit bulls.
When I got a Pit Bull, I knew the risks I was taking. These types of dogs seem to be violent and aggressive. People see them as trouble, dangerous, and killers. This is because of the reputation of the Pit Bull and how they are forced to fight each other against their will. Pit Bulls are known to be used for dog fights and people see them only as wild animals rather household pets or part of the family. We should find a way to help change this point of view. This can all be changed by the way one purchases a Pit Bull. Most animal rescues will inspect a person’s household to see if the person qualifies to become an owner of a Pit Bull. This might not be as effective as it was before. Maybe we can increase the security measure. We could do a personal background check included with the house check, or check the neighborhood to see if there are reports of thief in the area.
To begin with, pit bulls, like all other dogs, have a tendency to bite. According to the ASPCA, if a Pitbull is socialized to both people and other dogs, they are less likely to be aggressive. Just like people, pit bulls need to know how interact with other living things. If a Pitbull is chained outside and never
Thesis Statement: Pit bulls are like any breed of dogs that needs to be handled properly by their owners because they can be taught to be less aggressive and more loyal.
Many people claim that Pit bulls are very dangerous dogs. The reason they have brought this claim to consideration is that Pit bulls have been in many vicious attacks around the world.
Pit bulls are highly muscular dogs that have large front teeth, which make it easy for them to rip through flesh. Their front legs and back legs are short but powerful making it easy for them to knock a dog out with one hit. They have good endurance therefore they can withstand long matches with another dog. Because of their high pain tolerance they can get bitten multiple times without it affecting them.
