Pillow Angels are mentally disabled children by various birth defects. Most Pillow Angels are unable to talk, and or walk. The term Pillow Angel was first used by the parents of Ashley, because she always laid on her pillow unable to move because her brain is severely damaged. Pillow Angel is a term for mentally disabled individuals that have their physical growth stunted by various medical procedures. These procedures make it convenient on the caregivers and give the individual a better quality of life. The procedure of females can include a Hysterectomy which mean removing the uterus, to relieve the risk of the female getting pregnant and so that they don't have to worry about having menstrual cramps and or their menstrual cycle. When Ashley's’ parents started her treatment she was 53in(135cm) tall and 65lbs(30kg) in weight and she will remain the size of a 9 year old. Ashley is at a stable 54in(137cm) tall and 75 lbs(34kg). Ashleys had Hypotonia(Low Muscle Tone), Difficulty feeding, Choreoathetoid(involuntary Movement), and developmental delays. Approximately 600,000 hysterectomies are performed each year. The whole topic of Pillow Angels are very controversial because people think that it is not morally and, or ethically right. Some people think that doing a hysterectomy on a child is not right, but if all the child can do is lay in bed and have to rely on somebody else to change them and move them from place to place, How do they expect the child to carry a child, and by removing the uterus it eliminates the horrible pain the little girl would go through when they have their menstrual cycle. Some People also think that isn’t right to remove a little girl's breasts’ but, if the child not have a uterus and will not get pregnant they will not need them to breastfeed a baby, but it would also be hard to put the child in a chair with a harness if they have breast that grew with puberty.
