“Welcome to the Pi Kappa Phi House” Audience In this report, I will analyze and evaluate the Pi Kappa Phi fraternity house in order to give my audience, young males the opportunity to have an honest opinion on fraternity houses on campus. The brothers of Pi Kappa Phi can validate that I observed the fraternity house for this paper. Also, they can support my topic and prove that my information is valid. Pi Kappa Phi was founded on the principles of leadership, campus involvement, and brotherhood. The founders firmly believed that these ethics would hold the fraternity to upmost standards and make a effective brotherhood. The founders, Simon Fogarty Jr., Lawrence Harry Mixon, and Andrew Alexander Kroeg Jr. did not plan for Pi Kappa Phi to …show more content…
As a member of Pi Kappa Phi, it is not just considered a fraternity to party at, but believe in academic excellence. This includes having a minimum GPA of 2.7 and mandatory philanthropy events for the community. There is nothing better than helping someone in need. I am still a pledge and through the last nine weeks I have experienced and gained more leadership skills than I have had in my whole life. I personally love this place and would bring anyone interested in the fraternity to see what it is really about. The atmosphere always remains safe and friendly to each individual’s personal wants and needs, including my own. The members of the chapter at our university are genuinely good men and have the best intentions with everyone they approach. Tyler Sayers is a member of Pi Kappa Phi at South Alabama. He holds a position as the Secretary of all fraternities and sororities at South Alabama, which makes a huge difference in the Greek system. He is planning to run for President this upcoming term that will be a great addition to the fraternity. It is an amazing feeling that a member of the same fraternity could be in charge of all of the fraternities and sororities on campus. This will prove even more, how dominate we are over other fraternities. I would highly recommend any young man interested in Greek life at USA to check out the Pi Kappa Phi house. In order to find the house, simply look for the letters on the front of the house
I am interested in joining Alpha Kappa Psi because I wish to be a part of l ink minded people striving for academic and professional success. In addition, I would love to be a part of a family that will support me in all aspects of my life.
Once I am a fully initiated member of the Fraternity I will attend chapter weekly. The entire pledge class bonds and learns about the Fraternity, ideals, and history together. Chi Omega also plans activities that helps us bond together as sisters, such a flag football against the other sororities, or even something as simple as ice cream out together. These activities bring us together as a discourse community very frequently. This year we had the largest pledge class in the history of the Sigma Zeta chapter at 24 girls. Every year there are two recruitment periods, one in the fall and the other in the spring. It is during these periods that the fraternity replenishes the members that went alumna with new
The sororities of Baylor are looked upon like they can do no wrong and are given a large amount of resources to them that fraternities are not given. The construction of fraternity houses or a building resembling the Panhellenic building helps a plethora of many different problems.
Every year students at an accredited university have a decision to join groups/activities. In many cases a lot of students choose to join either a fraternity or a
That standard of academic excellence pushes you to become a great student, “if students want to become affiliated with academic discourse communities, or even if they want to succeed in school, they have to make considerable sacrifices,” (Johns 326). Johns’ outline of success academic discourse communities is on point. Fraternities are academic communities along with social. Much sacrificed time has to be taken to be apart and contribute to fraternity, for example a leadership role. A fraternity offers many opportunities of leadership opportunities.
Greek organizations, such as, fraternities and sororities have been a part of the college experience for centuries. We pride ourselves in brotherly and sisterly love, academic success, and helping others. There are countless stereotypes and myths that surround the “Greek life” name. Just some myths include: all Greeks haze their members, they only care about physical looks not personalities, and they go to college just to party and get drunk. Kappa Delta Sorority upholds none of these stereotypes. We have a strong no haze policy. Hazing is defined as an activity or situation that can cause emotional, mental, or physical discomfort. If a member is caught hazing or if a new member is caught allowing herself to be hazed, there will be major consequences, such as, national probation or deferral of initiation. Kappa Delta also does not look at physical appearance as the only quality for possible new members. We look at personality and qualifications that can benefit our sorority; instead of having a group of women that are pretty and popular, we like to have women with strong morals, work ethic, and have the willingness to love each and every member of Kappa Delta. Kappa Delta Sorority is like no other fraternity or sorority on campus; we do not waste our time with partying and drinking. We pride ourselves in our historical background, philanthropies, and our values. I know Kappa Delta is the best sorority not only on MTSU campus but in the whole country.
Women of Delta, especially the ladies of the Alpha Tau Chapter, excel excessively in everything they accomplish and partake in from what I have seen on Southern Universities campus and in the community. Their outstanding work ethics, academics success, social friendliness, dominating attitudes, and constant need to help others is just a few explanations why I would be honored to be a lovely member of ...
Greek organizations are debatably the most undervalued and misconceived aspect of college campuses. Most people don’t see the benefits that fraternities and sororities bring to college campuses and their communities. Some see these organizations as large beneficial clubs and others see them as potential problems. Many of the allegations put forth by individuals that discredit the benefits and good deeds done by Greek organizations are weak justifications for their removal from college campuses. Greek organizations provide campus communities with academically responsible students, philanthropic activities and increase community involvement.
The purpose of this letter is to inform you about my interest in becoming a member of The Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. I sought out membership because the members exemplify the epitome of class, grace, and standards. My desire is to inspire young girls and women and make a significant impact on their lives is just one of many reasons I aspire to join your great sorority. I believe in being of service, giving back to the community, and I want to continue on for years to come. Going into the transition into my college career from my freshman year until now, I have encountered many women in the organization that are very active on campus as well as in the community. My past experiences with my past and previous organizations have proved that once my feet are planted my roots will grow and I will stand firm in an organization or committee that I am apart of exemplifying my leadership skills. I am a dedicated member of the National Council of Negro Women. I am on the Bethune Committee, we focus on creating Health programs for the organization and the community. I am a Mentor with the Valdosta community organization G.O.L.F.E.R. (Generating Opportunities in Life for Each
The mission of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, promote unity and genuine friendships among college women, aid in issues concerning girls and women in order to come up with solutions to eliminate or ease the circumstances they may face, maintain an ongoing interest in college life, while also being of service to all mankind. This sorority has not only empowered women to help others, but it
Day in and day out we hear about high school and college students wanting to pursue a sorority and/or a fraternity based on the stereotypes these organizations uphold, well I chose to differ. I told myself if I ever decided to become a member of a sorority it would be based solely on their ethical standards, history, and values they are founded upon. Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated consists of ladies of distinction and exemplary character who excel in scholarship, leadership, and service, which are qualities I have chosen to uphold. From my perspective, I encourage myself to maintain a respectable appearance and reputation which doing so inspires me to embrace my self-concept; which helps me confidently excel academically and professionally as a “lady of distinction” and “exemplary character.” Most importantly, I continuously remain involved in community service, being involved allows me the opportunity to learn and understand the lives and circumstances of others by opening my mind, heart, and soul. Overall these qualities strengthen my passion to be a member of the prestigious Alp...
"The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity." THE PI KAPPA ALPHA FRATERNITY. The Pi Kappa Alpha International Fraternity, n.d. Web. 21 Apr. 2014. .
Sigma Pi Fraternity is a male social fraternity that was founded on February 26, 1897 in Indiana, on the campus of Vincennes University. The group's basic founding principle was to form an organization with moral strength. The fraternity continued to expand to other college campuses around the country, and approximately eighty-one years later, on April 22, 1978, it found a home for a chapter at Eastern Kentucky University. With this information in my possession, my next step was to collect my information.
For the parents who have zero experience with the Greek system, it could be described as a group of crazed educationally unmotivated sexually active under aged alcoholics that party every day in one of the many fraternity houses where inside taking place are “frat boys” shot gunning beers in togas while everyone else drunkenly chants “chug chug chug”; a parent’s worst nightmare, right? Wrong. The Greek life is a system where people with the same values can come together and form special bonds and friendships that lasts a lifetime. It is also where students can give back to their communities and or other national organizations by putting on special fundraisers throughout the scholastic year. For those reasons, I decided that I wanted to sign up for recruitment and see what all the talk was
First of all, fraternities have proven to be a serious reason for underage drinking and binge drinking. These young adults have far less supervision and are eager to exert their new found freedom. According to the U.S. Department of Education's Higher Education Center, 75% of fraternity members engaged in heavy drinking, compared with 49% of other male students. The same goes for sororities. “Outside the Greek system, 40.9% of college females admit to abusing alcohol, whereas sorority girls drink heavily at a rate of 62.4%.” It is true that a great way to make connections in college is through fraternities. It is also true that fraternities do offer organized events that help unite the campus community. However, in reality the only thing fraternities only care about are throwing out of control parties.
