Universal health care is a dream many Americans hope to see sometime soon. Many hope that they would not have to pay great amounts of their incomes to afford what they see as something that they see as a basic human right. Just like any other service, healthcare costs money. Medical bills are known to be quite expensive in the United States. People have even been known to go bankrupt due to these bills they cannot afford. Healthcare is a topic that many people have something to say about, which depends on the status of the person. Before addressing the problem of if everyone should have healthcare, what has already been tried, and could these be adopted?

Massive profits can be made by insurance companies and doctors alike. The profits American doctors are known to have high paying salaries as a result of the stress on medical quality. Even though these doctors are paid quite well, they often work tough hours and have to act impartial while also trying to achieve the best care they can. It proves to be a tough job, and requires a lot of training. If the pay is not sufficient, medical quality cannot be properly assured. The PBS frontline video previously mentioned also explored the healthcare system found in Switzerland. The video displayed that the system was under strain, but the drug companies were still making a profit due to the United States market which is less regulated (PBS Frontline, 2008). It seems if the country is not profitable for companies, they will focus research and time on other areas, diverting research and time away from the quality healthcare required locally. The healthcare systems around the world gives insight of what other people have tried, but what is the best way to address this

People, however, often confuse what type of right it is. There are several distinct types of rights including: claim, legal, statutory, moral and political. Claim and legal rights are often paired, a claim right relies on others to fulfill duties given to them and are upheld to this by a legal body (Munson, 2012, p. 690). A statutory right are claim rights that are explicitly stated in law (Munson, 2012, p. 690). Healthcare cannot possibly belong in one of these categories, because it is not reliant on other people to fulfill a duty if one gets sick, it does not make sense for someone to be legally forced to assist if one falls ill. Possibly the moral or political rights could encompass healthcare?

A moral right is stated or derived from the principles of a moral theory (690). A moral right suggests that others have a moral duty to assure that an individual receives what they have a right to (Munson, 2012, p. 690). This is similar to that of a claim right, but is not based on laws or practices of society but moral principles (2012, p. 690).
