Technology is always a tool that saves time and facilitates our lives in one way or another. Everyone wants to know if technology is really going to help our children learn more, and truly make a difference in the way teaching is currently being done in the classrooms. What will it cost to bring in technology, and can it be afforded without breaking the wallets of the parents and schools? Can technology help bring education back to life in children’s lives where they want to go to school and actually be there? Society needs to acknowledge that with technology many things can be achieved in education for all ages, grade levels, and countries.

Some of these tools are basic computers programs such as typing a book report, math problems, or testing in spelling. Many schools have several programs available for testing children in their classrooms to see which areas the child needs help in. This saves time for the teacher and also money for the schools; for they do not have to hire someone else to give these tests. Some of the advantages of technology are schools are being able to converse with classrooms from other countries. A teacher in India was able to have her class do a live debate with a class in Australia on racism by using Skype (Ojalvo, 2010). Skype is a live video feed that can be used on the computer or a cell phone, where people are able to connect with others. The opinions of some professors and teachers are that technology alone will not transform what their students are learning in the classroom (Millichap, 2000). If technology helps teachers to become better at teaching and helping our children at all ages to learn and comprehend; then it needs to be recognized. One of the hardest things that need to be worked on is the acceptance of technology being implemented into the schools. Some parents, teachers and even students admit that there are cons to technology also. It’s easy to become distracted while on the internet looking up information with Facebook, Twitter, and store websites. Parents need to accept their roles in their children’s lives and set boundaries; such as homework before playing video games, or only allowing so much time on the computer.
