Drones, also known as UAVs or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, are becoming an increasing problem as technology continues to progress. More and more uneducated people are acquiring these machines and using them in ways that violate moral codes and standards in society. In the article, “Misbehaving Drones Continue to Plague UK and US Skies,” Lisa Vaas touches on some of the most pressing issues concerning these drones in everyday life, with the issues of privacy, danger, and theft being some of the most pressing. Although they have been used in positive ways by both civilians and military personnel, they also can lead to more harm than good. These machines should not be freely released to the public, their use should be closely monitored in order to ensure the safety of those mentioned in these articles: pilots, prisoners, and everyday citizens so that these occurrences can be overseen and, if need be, prosecuted. The fact that there are various incidents of drones assisting in stealing people’s information and are interfering with planes putting out wild fires should attest to the idea that drones do need to be registered as soon as they are released to the public. Nevertheless, these drones can also be used for purposes to help people, such as being “increasingly used to provide valuable low-cost information to public agencies, including surveillance of remote areas and public safety, such as flood, fire, surf patrol and traffic management” (Wallace, 2015). With technology continuously advancing, who knows what else people will use these devices for and it is not ethical to continue to let these drones interfere with people’s personal lives as well as put others in danger while in use.
