Bullying has become an increasing problem among teens, parents, and society. Bullying has always been around and it is an issue many individuals fight to end. It is one of the leading causes of depression and suicide between young adults. Adults are the blame for bullying and cyberbullying among children and teenagers. It is the responsibility of the parents’ to get involved in the subject in order to educate their children about the different ways of bullying. It is a problem that must be eliminated. Bullying is presented every day in numerous forms. A bully is a person who intentionally hurts another individual physically and or emotionally and finds pleasure in doing wrong to others. Many adults have taken the time to explain the consequences of bullying to the younger generations. However, there should be more who see this act as a problem that can be prevented. Parents of bullies are usually not around in their children’s lives. Children find comfort in others unhappiness. If parents were to explain to their children the consequences of bullying there would be less unfortunate cases. Parents and guardians also need to educate their children on browsing the internet. Cyberbullying is getting out of hand, there is no good at blaming social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Tumblr. These companies are not leaving any time soon, there is more to come. Our next generations are going to be in electronic devices more than ever, if we do not act soon. The definition of bullying uses broad statements to define the actual meaning. Because of this, people may view the definition differently than others. Bullying can range from physical violence to verbal abuse to even cyberbullying. Most people do not realize how common cyberbullying actually is. Over half of teens and adolescents have been bullied online and almost the same number have engaged in the bullying (“Cyber Bullying Statistics”). Bullying involves the negative and hurtful interaction between two people. One or both tear down self-esteem and self-confidence of the other. Each of these leaves a negative impact on people’s lives and can hurt them in the future. There are many different kinds of bullying, some being traditional bullying and cyber-bullying. In the earlier years, bullying was easily controlled because of the limitations of technology but now technology is growing at a rapid pace. Instead of the traditional face-to-face bullying, cyber-bullying is more common in today society due to this growth.
In conclusion, cyber bullying is a problem that is growing exponentially with the expansion of today’s technology. In order to stop the hatred thrown onto children through the Internet, preventative strategies need to be put in place. Too many children are being worn down mentally and emotionally due to being bullying anonymously on social media, through texts, and over email messages. Ignoring this problem can not continue. There are so many promising preventative routes to take when approaching cyber bullying. More people need to be educated and aware of the prevention methods available to them, because the varieties of prevention methods are endless.
For high school students bullying and harassment can make a time of learning and new social interactions a nightmare. The possibility of being physically or verbally bullied at school,, a place where student should feel safe, is a growing peril. Unfortunately, bullying is nothing new in the United States. As well as the problem of avoiding being a victim of bullying at school, students can not escape this harsh scrutiny because of the rise of social media networks. Teenagers are being harassed on social media at alarming rates and a majority of school can do nothing about it. To understand the role social media has in the battle to prevent harassment and cyberbullying, it is essential that people identify the roles schools and students play in these situations.
Bullying against teens is still happening even though there are various awareness programs to try to prevent it. I want to create awareness of bullying against teens of all religions, race, and sexual orientation. Even with the various attention to bullying, the problem still persists despite the school providing awareness, students are still afraid to say anything. Societal patterns today make bullying a difficult issue to eliminate. Starting in 2007, a total of 35 states made laws to go against bullying at school. These laws consisted of a clear definition of bullying, and how schools will be required to enforce uniform standards of conduct. The reason bullying comes as such an issue to me is because I actually know friends that have been suicidal and have caused themselves harm due to being bullied every day, in school and at home.

Bullying peaks in middle school, then reduces in high school. Other types of bullying may involve the passing of notes behind someone’s back, rumors being whispered about someone, or being threatened in the internet. The most common types of cyberbullying include passing of humiliating photos, cell phone pranks, cyber stalking, impersonation, online slam books, and text wars. Bullies appear scary but truthfully they are the unhappy ones. Majority of bullies have been bullied by parents, siblings, or other young people. This may trigger them to bully and pick on other kids.

Usually teens that are the bullies have a lower self-esteem than the person they’re bulling. Teens today use the internet more than anything excluding sleep. In two thousand and eight young teens ages 12-17 had access to the internet. Cyber bullying needs to stop before more of our children hurt themselves. Studies show that most likely a female would be the most bullied. A high percent of teens have been angry, frustrated, sad, embarrassed, scared and shockingly a small percent weren't even bothered.
As a society, we often underestimate the damages that bullying cause on children, not just America but all over, and the ones who suffer are the victims themselves. Victims are damaged with the stigma that they are weak, yet somehow have to fend for themselves against something that they have little to no control over. Whether it is for funding, a reputation or any other reason schools sweep their bullying problem under the rug or turn a blind eye, however they have more potential to end this growing issue. Bullying has become a serious problem in public schools systems. Being a victim of bullying is a daily struggle for some students. The issue continues to grow, but the question is how to stop bullying from occurring. Many ways have been attempted to stop bullying, but some are more effective than others. Having the students get involved seems to have the most positive effect on the bullying issue in public school systems.
The online bully’s goal is to make their target feel weak; these online bullies can be referred to as a cyber bully. Cyber bullying is the exercise of using technology to embarrass, threaten, harass, or target another person; according to its definition it occurs among young people (New, 4). It is usually performed by a child’s peers and surprisingly occurs early as the second grade (Jacobs 1). Cyber bullying can even be unintentional, especially through the use of emails, IMs, and text messages because the tone of the sender may be hard to depict. However, recurring emails, online posts, and texts are hardly ever unintentional (124). As the number of youths increase that have the availability to technology, cyber bullying is likely to continue to rise and continue to take its toll on youth. Due to its excessive effect that it has on children today, Cyber bullying should be taken more seriously.
