The information I found in this study complimented the conclusion of the other article I reviewed. They both concluded that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator had many faults and was not reliable nor valid as far as solid science is concerned. 4. Utility of assessment. According to the textbook Mastering the World of Psychology, the MBTI’s limitation is that it has an “absence of rigorous, controlled validity studies of the inventory” (Wood et al., 2014, p. 385). The questions were very thought out and not too broad which was an intelligent idea because if you want to achieve specific answers in a personality assessment, there needs to be specific questions. I read a book about the Big Five before this assignment was assigned so while I was taking the test I could partially tell which questions corresponded to which division of the Big Five. Nevertheless, that did not have an impact on how truthful my responses were. If I were to take the test again I do believe that I would get a similar score because I answered honestly and the answers I chose were the ones that represented me the best. I assume that the test would produce results for diverse groups of people as long as the information about gender, age and country were answered correctly. I personally liked the Character Traits/Feedback assessment because I was able to determine my results without being told my character traits. It was challenging for me to select negative traits because I wanted to display myself in a positive light but I realized both positive and negative traits make me who I am....
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a 30 minute assessment that describes the personality of a individual based across four areas: Extraversion-Introversion, Sensing-Intuition, Thinking-Feeling, and Judging-Perceiving. When an individuals get their report, the MBTI provides an occupational lists that shows the occupations that was selected by the personality type. The next assessment is the 5 minute O*NET Interest Profiler assessment. This assessment also helps the individual find out what kinds of careers fits them based on their person interest. Ultimately, both assessments help decide what career path someone should explore.
