Why people help others? Since the beginning of time, people have helped one another to have a better life. The reason i support people is to make the world a greater place.
For instance, my personal experience is the time i supported my mom do a fundraiser for her work. I was with her all day and backed her up by collecting food and recycling water for the poor. Without me she couldn't have done it. The words i said to her “im doing this to set an example to the world.”

This is why I have worked at a local homeless shelter for the past two years. I feel like I can do the same thing -- help a person or two merely on the basis of our shared humanity. I enjoy paying back some of the help society has given me. I teach a computer class at the shelter, but everyone gets free therapy on the side. Most of those people aren't different in some essential way from the homed or those who have jobs, but life has often dealt them a losing hand to begin with. I tell them that I also had a losing hand, but I never gave up hope. Often, hope is all I had -- but it was enough to keep me pressing onward.
I have known that I wanted to go into the field of Social Work since my first year of undergraduate studies at SUNY at Fredonia. I entered SUNY at Fredonia as a major in secondary education, with a concentration in English. It was during my first semester of my freshman year that I had taken an introductory course in psychology. I realized then that I wanted to work with people, but not in the capacity as a secondary education teacher, but in a career in mental health. My professor spoke with such enthusiasm about the subject of psychology and psychopathology and soon, I found myself intrigued with these subjects. I wanted to help individuals who needed the help, especially knowing the stigma mentally illness exists in society.
One time, when I was around five, it was night time and I had a school project to turn in the next day, I approached my mother and told her that I needed help with my project. Of course I told her that I had to turn in the project the next day, and she proceeded to scold me for waiting until the last minute to do my work, but never the less she accepted to help me. If I had asked for help when I was five, I must have asked for help later in my life, because I’m sure I’ve needed help many times, and not only from my mother but from friends, teachers, peers, strangers, and family.
It could be as small as opening the door for someone who is not able to. It could be as huge as taking months of preparation and fundraising. We should all have compassion in our heart, understand another’s feelings or emotions. When I was shopping the other day, I saw a young lady helping an old man in a wheelchair to grab cereals from a shelf. She would gently describe all the boxes on the shelf. Then ask which one he would like. After the old man decided, the young lady grabbed the box and handed over to him. The old man took it over with his trembling hands, and he kept saying. "Thank you.” It was a heart-melting moment. She could have ignored the old man, but because of compassion. She lent a helping hand to him. We help elders to accomplish trivial things, such as opening the door and grabbing things they can’t reach. At the same time toddlers also treat other toddlers with compassion. When my four- year- old cousin’s friend wouldn’t stop crying because her dad was going on a business trip. My cousin tried to use a cookie to distract her attention, then she asked if she wants to play rock paper scissors. My cousin lost the game purposely just to make her friend feel happy. After a while, her friend stopped crying. My cousin’s heart was full of compassion towards her friend, she wants her friend to be happy. We should all have love and compassion for other
Helping is the most powerful way that one can show love and affection for others. Being there for someone who is going through a hard time in his/her life means more than anything for that person. I believe what kept the world still alive is helping one another. For example during the world war I, when European powerful nations are fighting for no reason killing the people who could be their brothers if they weren’t wearing that uniform and holding that gun. When germany was thinking they won the war already, but when the United States join the Allies, everything comes into peace. Woodrow wilson’s plan for peace was achieved by helping the the Allies fight the central powers who influenced the Nation by power, military and economy had to give up their position.
I often volunteer on the weekends and I believe that people usually perceive me as a good smarten. To my surprise I received added respect and admiration from others who knew I volunteered. I enjoy helping others less fortunate or in need, so through this social role I believe I am far more willing to go out of my way to help someone in need outside of volunteering.

I decided on a service project that affects a dear person to my heart, and that was something that I do every day. My sister Miriam was born with some learning disabilities and she doesn’t function as fast as the other people her age. She needs help in almost all aspects of life. Thus every day I get up in the morning, at about 5:30am, to start my daily life, and hers. I wake her up, make her breakfast, and help her choose an outfit for the day. I also do her hair and make sure her hygiene is suitable for the day. This process starts the same every day before I get ready to go to school for early morning Jazz Band at 7am. The experiences I have had with her strengthened, humbled, and helped me to become my best self.
I encourage people to help everyone they can in their life, and I certainly hope that people truly enjoy helping others through life. I try to get people to be the way I am, through my actions. I don’t judge people fast, and I try my best to assume that people in general are good and are not up to no good.
I never realized the importance of giving back, considering I was very young, but there was something that my parents did and it changed my views. Giving back to others is essential in today’s day and age, to give back means so much to others, its truly such a great deed to do. I have never really had the opportunity to give back to the others but I have seen others do it many of times and in the future I plan on giving back to others more when the opportunity presents itself. There so many things I want to do for everyone who’ve gave me everything that they could I was growing up, it’ll mean a lot to me to give back to them. As a kid I had the opportunity to witness first hand my Mother give her Mom everything that she had deserved for taking care of her.
If we open our lives and give service to those less fortunate than ourselves, we allow our hearts to receive immeasurable happiness. When we sacrifice our time to help someone in need, whether it is a great or small need, we become a part of their life and can help alleviate heavy burdens. Making time to help people in need creates opportunities for us to develop new and lasting relationships. Serving our fellowmen allows the best in each of us to shine through and we can become examples to our children.
I’ve noticed that there are a few ways each day in my life that I can help someone. A good example is, all around town I see homeless people holding up signs asking for money or for food. One night my fiancé and I ate at Cheddars restaurant and as we were leaving, there was a homeless man lying on the grass with a dog and had a sign that said “Need food, please help”. I realized that moment that my life could be worse and we had leftover steak and handed it to the man. He was very thankful and said him and his dog loved steak and that is going to be one of the best meals in a while. I just felt better about myself after that moment. I am in agreement with Norton on his statement because after giving that man our food, I felt so much more confident in myself and in choices I make after that evening.
