I began my senior project expedition probably my junior year. I was in A.V.I.D. and I became aware of the need to think about ideas of what I intended to do my senior project on. It truly wasn’t until the first month of my senior year where my English teacher mentioned to us that we would begin to work on our senior project. I had a plethora of ideas on what I pictured myself on doing my project on. One of my many ideas was on auto-customization. I enjoy learning about cars and their different attributes. I was interested in learning how to upgrade a cars performance and power. I was interested in learning how to change the interior parts of a car. The United States has businesses all over the world, from Hawaii to Indonesia. Some of the richest businesses such as Nike don’t operate in the United States. In fact they operate all the way in Asia and China. “Small businesses account for more than 40 percent of the offline economy. (Small Business Facts, IDC Jan 2001) Small business is a very impacted industry in the United States. So impacted, that business owners take their business to foreign countries to have more profit due to the fact that materials cost less in other countries. “85 percent of Americans view small business as positive influence on American life (Small Business Facts, NFIB, 2001) Small businesses offer more than just the business itself. They offer jobs for many people. “Small businesses represent more than 99 percent of all employers.” (Small Business Administration, 2000) This is a huge percentage. Wood companies that did not want to associate with his new flooring company caused some problems. This motivated him to really become successful. It took him about 2 weeks to find a company that will negotiate with his flooring company. After he had a deal with a wood company he began to advertise his company. “It was hard to advertise with a lot of competition out there.” He had some struggle getting customers. After time he went and advertised his company himself. He went to Corona del Mar and advertised his flooring company there and also at Newport Beach. There he began gaining popularity and began getting more and more customers. He hired trustworthy and skilled people to work for him. He asked his boss if he encountered any obstacles he could not find a solution to. After a few years of growth he opened a mini taco restaurant. He has faced many obstacles and has managed to make the correct decisions.
With this interview I learned a lot of things dealing with business and real life situations. I learned that having a successful could be possible. Talking to Arturo really a painted a picture of what the business life is all about. He gave me personal situations of how he managed to keep his business running. I learned many business skills that he learned are needed in order to be a good
