I entered the car as rain sprinkled around my body striking it with cold water. I was on my way to get a Laptop from a Guy I met from Offer Up. It was a warm rainy June night the humidity was high which made it even harder to breathe on the crammed boat. My family was asleep on the constantly rocking boat suddenly the boat shook, but my family was still fast asleep. I couldn’t seem to fall asleep so I got up and stepped out on the cold wet steel boats upper deck to get some air. When I got outside I realized that it was pouring bucket sized rain. I saw increasingly large waves crash furiously against the lower deck. Hard water droplets pelted my face, I could taste the salt water in my mouth from the spray of the ocean. I remember it was Freshman year [in high school] and all the upper class lacrosse girls told us to meet at one of the girl’s houses because we were going to go to a party. We met up there, and got into three different cars and started driving. The van I was in had 6 other girls in it and I was pretty good friends with the senior driving it so it didn’t take long for the senior to tell us that we weren’t really going to a party – and that we were going to go visit an abandoned insane asylum. I had never heard of Glenn Dale Hospital and the entire trip, we were told of how many unexplainable deaths used to occur at the hospital and how if you go there today, you can still hear the screams of the patients throughout the halls. I don’t remember what road we ended up on, but next thing I knew – it was all of us freshman walking through a long field seeing a large building in front of us. The closer we got… the slower we walked. We started talking about everything we had heard in the trip up. One girl mentioned that there are still bodies and papers left in the hospital and that the place was abandoned after the workers refused to keep working there after so many inexplicable deaths. Another mentioned that there are always cops patrolling the place and you can get arrested for trespassing. Ironically, as soon as the girl finished talking about the cop, we heard a loud voice from the other side of the building.
Since beginning Penn Foster, it has been a challenge to balance out all my reasonability’s as an adult. From working 40 hours a week at my local Walmart, to volunteering a few hours of each day at my local SPCA. My life is full of chaos. I rarely get any “me” time and when I do I am trying to finish up my assignments. Working at Walmart is not really stressful, granted we are a very high volume store but all I really do is stock shelves, and assist customers when needed. When I finally found my words I asked what was going on and my mother told me that my sister was in a car accident. When we arrived at the scene all I could see was my sister’s car sideways in the middle of the road with the entire front of it smashed up towards the windshield. As the sound of my tires fighting to get a grip on the gravel and the rough terrain light lit up on the dashboard my heart skipped a beat. However after a short struggle the truck managed to pull itself up the hill as if by magic. Further down the gravel road I noticed a pristine white Ford F-150 sitting of to the side of the road, its lights still on. I slowed down as I neared the truck to ensure that the driver was not injured, but suddenly I heard a sharp snap on my left and the driver of the truck, a tall middle aged man appeared on my right jumped into the driver’s seat and tore off down the road before I had gotten within five hundred feet of the truck. Watching his angry red taillights disappear I wondered what he had been doing, suspicion clouded my mind. As I was driving down the road I saw red, and blue lights going off behind me, so I turn on my turn single and turned to the side of the street and parked my car. I saw the police officer getting out of his car and started to walks towards me, my hands were getting all sweaty and clammy, my stomach was in complete knots and I couldn’t figure out if I was going to vomit, or just pass out. I heard a knock on my window, and I rolled it down.
The computer obsession began when the first computer was built in 1939. There are many uses of a computer like the proper way and the negative way. The way Annalee Newitz uses her computer is good and bad. The definition of a good teaching tool is the best way to teach a class or something that is taught. Using a good teaching tool is not always easy. There are many things about computers who make people depend or use too much to stop depending on technology.
With music blasting, voices singing and talking, it was another typical ride to school with my sister. Because of our belated departure, I went fast, too fast. We started down the first road to our destination. This road is about three miles long and filled with little hills. As we broke the top of one of the small, blind hills in the middle of the right lane was a dead deer. Without any thought, purely by instinct I pulled the wheel of the car to the left and back over to the right. No big deal but I was going fast. The car swerved back to the left, to the right, to the left. Each time I could feel the car scratching the earth with its side. My body jolted with the sporadic movements of the car. The car swerved to the right for the last time. With my eyes sealed tight, I could feel my body float off the seat of the car.
My cousin coerced me into getting into the water. I could see my toes as I stood in about a foot deep into the water. It was cold as ice at first but after a minute I was acclimated to it. Two days ago, on November 16, my life flashed before my eyes twice. The first had happened around 7:30 in the evening and I was on my way to my best friends house. I had gone to her house a thousand times before, and I didn’t think this time would be any different. Driving down the highway, the unimaginable happened, I lost control of my car. I had lived through 20 seconds of my worst fear. Spinning around and around, I thought my life was going to end. All the good times and the bad times flashed in my eyes, and I thought about all the things I would miss out on if I died. I thought the worst was inevitable, death was upon me, I was going to die at a mere 17 years old. Those 20 seconds seemed to have lasted forever, every single day of life was relived twice, I thought it was never going to end. The crash seemed so far, but it was closer than I ever could have imagined. The impact which would determine the rest of my life. After waking up, I thought the worst had happened, I was paralyzed. I would never be able to walk again, my dreams had been crushed in one minute. I didn’t know what I was gonna do. I decided that this was not going to be my fate. After I had set up, I got ready to go to lunch, since most of my companions were ready to eat. We all went down to Mesa Mall's Food Court where I had sausage pizza that had grease dripping down onto the plate. After I was finished eating, my friend Jimmy had to buy a CD, so we flew down to the FYE Music Emporium. As we ran out to the bus to go back, a hailstorm picked up. The hail felt like a thousand needles striking me at the same time and there was no way that I could open my eyes completely....
I can clearly remember being in the car on a humid day with a little overcast. We were driving in the car when all of a sudden the wind started to pick up and it started raining a bit. Within five minutes, the weather progressed and there was so much wind blowing around the car that we could no longer hear the radio. I can remember when I saw a stop sign spinning in circles like a “merry-go-round'; with electrical problems. I do not remember how my mother got us home so quickly and where we were because all around us was a thick gray fog. However, all I can recall from that point on was sitting with my head in my lap in the back seat of the car. I never witnessed the true power of nature until this incident.
