Sunny D Haul Last saturday Kelso Stackhouse and I were bored out of our minds. Kelso was very hungry but all I have is shrimp,and stupid fancy food. Kelso hates fancy food so we needed to buy all the junk food possible. I just got my cash from my parents for mowing multiple lawns. The Cash was burning a hole in my pocket so I needed to spend it on something. Then I came up with the idea “Let's get some sunny D”. Kelso was so up for the trip that he was about to run out the door he was so hungry We First took off to the 45 minute death hike to Dairy queen, we rushed to the fake juice section, and then I had tears in my eyes, kelso was about to scream some bad words. It was the day of April 13, 2000. I woke up at exactly 12 o’clock because my boyfriend was to pick me up at 1 like we planned the night before. The day looked quite nice, but I was in a fowl mood. I got into a car accident the night before and had a huge argument with my parents about the car. I finally dragged myself into the shower and got ready in half an hour. Then I went downstairs, sat on my couch, and repeatedly told myself the day would hopefully turn out better than last night. At around 1:15, my boyfriend came to pick me up. We took the 5 freeway to the 57 since it was the only way I knew how to get there. As we approached the 134 freeway, my girlfriend veered to the right, taking the 210 which was wrong way and got us lost. So, we exited the freeway and got back on the right track. Then finally, before long, we reached Norton Simon.
It started out just like any scorching, July evening. As farm fair was beginning to end, Angie, Lizzy, and I all decided to go together. It started to get dark, and all of the dazzling , gleaming fair lights started to illuminate the atmosphere. We decided to get some pizza, which tasted like paper and tomato juice! It was so abominable , that we threw it out to go on some rides. We walked around, saw a few other friends who gave us the “ fake-smile-and-wave” as they continued to keep walking., Finally, we got delicious ice cream to make up for the pizza. After a few rides, we had a few dollars left and we were getting exhausted. There was one ride that we had not gone on yet This ride spun around and went up and down really fast. We thought it would be a fun way to end the night, but that suddenly changed.
This day had been so pleasing since the beginning; it was a summer weekend of the year 2005.One of the finest days came to a start with an early morning shopping with my cousins, mother, aunt, and younger sister. Here we all obtained our swimsuits which we later took home meeting the rest of our family. Eventually we packed all that subsisted to go from Phoenix to Rocky Point. After we were completely set to hit the road my cousins went on their truck while my family and I left happily behind them. Listening to music, laughing, singing, eating, and talking we spent the entire time on the road having a pleasant time. I was so anxious to get to perceive the beach, construct sand castles, play in the water, spend time with my family. A few hours into our road trip we arrived at our destination.
Drugs! Alchohol! These two things prove to be very dangerous to the human person. My older brother was once addicted to both, but with the help from my parents, he is now back on the right track. This was only possible because my parents took huge steps in helping him get to rehab. They were heroes to me and my family because they had been so caring, loving, and forgiving to my brother. There has been so many wonderful things I have learned from them. My parents saved my brother's life and showed me what true love and hope can accomplish.
This last weekend, I was presented with the opportunity to return home. My trip back to my house is just over one hour. Since it is so close, I have made this drive multiple times during my career at Wheaton College. On my way back, I realized that I was in country that was unfamiliar to me. A couple minutes later, I was back to what I remembered as the road back to campus. It was amazing to me that within a span of a couple months, I went from knowing what seemed like every street sign on the journey, to being in a location that was completely foreign to me. “I’m going to take a shower and get dressed then since testing will happen soon.” I said, crunching on my last morsel of bacon. I walked to the bathroom with my handful of clothes and turned on the water. I stood in the steaming hot shower as shut my eyes. My mind wandered and pretty soon the shower shut off, like it always does on it’s ten minute timer. Sighing I stepped out, got dressed, and began combing my messy hair.
It was early September, and my grandma, Buzzy, had just died of cancer. I wasn’t really old enough to understand, but it was the first time in my life I had seen my dad cry. My parents had gone out to Chicago to see her, but everyone knew there was no other outcome. It was accepted she wasn’t going to get better. Thankfully, she passed away in her sleep, with her sons at her side.

It was a dark, and rainy day. I was in my Grandpa John’s attic, and rummaging around. Then, all of the sudden, I turned around, and there was my Grandpa. He was holding a picture frame, and crying the most I’ve ever seen. I was walking over to him in a heartbeat. I looked at the picture, and realized it was my grandma Janet. She died before I was ever even born, but I had still seen her many, many times before. I eventually just walked away, thinking he would stop crying. I picked up a pair of old black binoculars, and he immediately stopped crying. “STOP!” he cried. I immediately dropped the pair of binoculars.”What?!?!” I screamed, as my heart skipped a beat.”Sorry, I just wasn’t sure if they were the sa-” and there he was, just thinking. I knew I had to ask him what was wrong, but I was afraid I would make him unhappy.
I scuffled through the hallway trying my very best to remain unnoticed but it was extremely difficult since I had enough books in my hands to fill a library. I finally trudged my way through the crowded halls and made it to my locker. I placed my 5 textbooks on the ground, English, Math, History, Science, and Spanish. There are several experiences I’ve been through during my life, but witnessing my 13-year-old cousin suffer from a gunshot wound is one that is unbearable. Some people may say everything happens for a reason but, after four years of this nightmare, I’m still clueless on why my little cousin is no longer here with me.
