Self Esteem Happiness is in and of itself a complex concept; it is both the basis and product of self esteem. Self esteem is our feeling of self worth based on our accomplishments or what we believe we are capable of accomplishing. (Carr Kindle Locations 5017-5018). High self esteem has been a very controversial subject in that the development of self esteem could be derived from positive personal, social and occupational interaction or these activities could be what gives a person a high self esteem (Carr Kindle Location 5071). Locus of control is about whether our actions were responsible for the outcome, or if it was our surroundings that caused the outcome. Taking responsibility for one’s action is considered to be an internal locus of control, contrarily blaming your circumstances on outside factors is an external locus of control. In my life, the easiest for me to take control over is my education, it is completely dependent upon the amount of work and effort I place into studying and the homework required of me. The other aspects in my life are often times looked at as a streak of luck either good or bad. I commonly look down on my abilities and have a low feeling of self worth. After leaving the traditional style university and moving in with my boyfriend I have felt like a common “house wife”, which for myself was belittling and made me feel that I was not contributing. Following Burton’s suggestions of writing down my accomplishments I have seen that many of the tasks I accomplish during the day although not worldly would leave our family in a state of unhappiness and
