Analysis of "Peril of Hope"

The poem "Peril of Hope," by Robert Frost is about having hope. The poem speaks about no matter how things are one minute they can always change. Hope, however, is constantly there and will always be there to help get through the tough times until things get better.
Imagery is used throughout this poem to help describe the extent of the boundaries of hope. Hope has endless boundaries in this poem it goes from one extreme to the next. In the first stanza (lines1-4), the poet describes a late fall scene just before winter when all the leaves have already fallen off of the trees. But in the same stanza, he also depicts a beautiful spring day just after all the leaves have come out before all the blossoms appear on the orchard trees. Frost does this to show the extremes in which hope can be found. The second and third stanzas reiterate the same thing as the first four lines but in a more vivid way using color images and images off a frosty morning that brings a chill to the readers spine.
"Peril of Hope," has a definite from. It is set up in a quatrain form with three stanzas. The poem has a rhyme scheme ABAB, with the last word of every other line rhyming, such as, lines one and three , there and bare, and also lines two and four, between and green. Lines one, two, and four in every stanza all have five syllables, and line three only has four. The poems lines have a stressed syllable followed by a unstressed syllable.
The name of the poem has little significance to the meaning of the poem. There is nothing connecting the poem to the title, except the common theme of hope. The title implies that in having hope a person could put themselves in some type of danger of expecting too much. But, the poem just talks about where and when a person may find hope, which could be anytime and anywhere.
What is the director ultimately saying about the ways in which hope affects the individual?
The theme of the poem seems to be that hope will always find its way into the soul, but asks nothing in return for the nourishment is offers. It is unclear as to why the word “hope” is enclosed in quotation marks. Some have speculated on why this may be. Among these is the aforementioned O’Connor, who asks of the author,
The theme for this dystopian characteristic is this; one can still have faith even when they don’t have a whole lot to be hopeful for.
...ng the underlying theme that drives the story and the movie, propels the reader and viewer to rekindle the desire to hope above all else because hope is all one has in devastating as well as dire needs. Hope overcomes despair, permits others to see your “inner light” to develop integrity which connects with honesty and trust. Hope is the inspiration to continue to live regardless of the circumstances. Red may have narrated; “Let me tell you something my friend. Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane.” But, Andy Dufresne states it best: “Get busy living, or get busy dying.”
The movie, Slumdog Millionaire, and the short story, A Month and a Day: A Detention Diary, show that when a person has a genuine will to survive, they will go to great extents to make sure that their determination does not vanish with the obstacles along the way. The director of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle presents both Jamal Malik’s and Latika’s strong will to get through their challenging lives. Ken Saro-Wiwa, the author of A Month and a Day: A Detention Diary, retells a story about his sacrifice for the survival of the Ogoni People. Hope and will to survive is best displayed by Latika, Jamal Malik, and Ken Saro-Wiwa.
It is an unparalleled force that one will hold onto in times of great difficulty. It makes it possible for people to be inspired by injustices, and it makes it possible for the change to occur without problems. Hope has the power to change many aspects of a person’s life, only if they allow it to. Many people with hope, that are united for one cause, are able to accomplish seemingly impossible tasks. Take the people of Berlin, Germany for example. With hope in their hearts, masses of people together were able to overcome a world power and bring down the Berlin Wall. This speaks volumes of all the possibilities hope provides for everyday
“Hope is defined as the action of wishing or desiring that something will occur.” Hope helps people move forward in life to see what’s coming next for them. For example, “I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his sole support” (Wiesel, “Night”.) This quote explains the effects of hope in a pitiful situation. Eliezer Wiesel and his father were torn apart, mentally and physically from everything they
Frost uses different stylistic devices throughout this poem. He is very descriptive using things such as imagery and personification to express his intentions in the poem. Frost uses imagery when he describes the setting of the place. He tells his readers the boy is standing outside by describing the visible mountain ranges and sets the time of day by saying that the sun is setting. Frost gives his readers an image of the boy feeling pain by using contradicting words such as "rueful" and "laugh" and by using powerful words such as "outcry". He also describes the blood coming from the boy's hand as life that is spilling. To show how the boy is dying, Frost gives his readers an image of the boy breathing shallowly by saying that he is puffing his lips out with his breath.
In the movie Slumdog Millionaire, the director, Danny Boyle shows that when a person deeply loves someone, they’ll do a lot of difficult, challenging, or painful things for him or her that they would never do for anyone else, just like Jamal did for Latika. Jamal signs up for the show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” to get noticed by the girl he loves. The short story, A Month and a Day: A detention Story written by Ken Saro-Wiwa, reflects the idea that the author believes that one day, someone will stand up for the same cause as him and protest against the Nigerian government and the international oil companies that were destroying his homeland. Both Jamal and Ken Saro-Wiwa are optimistic and have wishful expectations of positive outcomes in the future. Jamal hopes that one day, Latika and he end up together, while Ken Saro-Wiwa hopes that he can make a change in Nigeria. Hope and a will to survive is best displayed by the characters of Slumdog Millionaire, and A Month and a Day: A Detention Story, in their need for true love, personal values, and an optimistic future.
In the sources used, the situations that are experienced seems like there is no hope to be found, only fear. Fear will protect us, we hope. Nevertheless, hope is everywhere no matter what. For World War II in The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne Frank is the secret annex’s hope. Anne Frank is a 13-year old girl that has the most hope of surviving the Nazi Invasion. All you can think is, “Ah, the Nazi’s are coming! Run for your lives!” That is what went through many minds during this time period, fear. Fear is a strong ally to have. You can worry all the time and no one will stop you. But, hope can be an even stronger ally, if you believe.
No matter how bad things may seem, there is always hope for things to ameliorate. When people believe that the future will be promising, they can have something to look forward to as opposed to dwelling on the past or the problems of the present. This hope can give a person a positive outlook on life and motivate him or her to look past what is happening in the present. In the poems “Hope is the Thing with Feathers” by Emily Dickinson and “The Darkling Thrush” by Thomas Hardy, they both convey similar messages about hope. Both works display the theme of hope being present at all times no matter how bad things may seem and is a consistent option for anyone in need of help.
The use of visual imagery in each poem immensely contributed to conveying the theme. In the poem “Reluctance”, Robert Frost used this poetic device to better illustrate the leaves of autumn:
Along with the imagery we get from the title, there is a lot of imagery within this poem. Let us start with the first three lines:
I believe that PSR principle of Hope would be a strength that I possess. I have worked with people with developmental disabilities over the last 20 years and have practiced many of the components of the principle of hope such as conveying hope, having a positive mindset and the belief that everyone has the capacity to learn and grow. Over my career, I have come across situations where I had individuals in my care express feeling of hopelessness and despair. This feeling of hopelessness usually occurred because the individual felt they had little or no control over their lives, or that they were view as having little or no value in their community or they lack of the ability to change certain circumstances in their lives (such as whom they lived
The poem is showing how many people are questioning the way Frost conducts himself and his happiness. Everything in Frost’s poem up until the last stanza is dark and depressing. An example of this is, “Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year.” (Frost, Lines 7 and 8). Frost is so consumed in the sadness, that its very dark around him. The last stanza is where Frost’s hopefulness is presented. The happiness is hinted towards, “The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep.” (Frost, Lines 13 to 16). He has promised himself to always keep moving forward and focusing on the goodness that life has to offer. Frost knows that he isn’t quite there yet, but he will not give up. He emphasizes his perseverance by reaping himself twice when he says “And miles to go before I sleep,” (Frost, Line 15). He had a break through and knows that he cannot give up. He is taking the little bit of happiness he knows to transform his life completely too where he is happy with every aspect of it. He is taking the hope that he does have and running with it, not looking back at the despair he feels that surrounds
