Shields states in the article that the overuse of technology can cause strains to bones and muscles in the body. Technology causes children to overuse these bones and muscles that are currently developing in early childhood.
Decay in hearing and vision can be caused by the overuse of technology in children. Indeed, as children view video games with flashing lights or loud sounds, their hearing and vision could decay over time. The loud noises or bright graphics could also cause young children to be cranky after playing the game or reading off the screen. In addition, the loud noises may cause the young child to feel distracted to anything around them as well. An author states in an online article, “It’s easy for a toddler or preschooler to get overwhelmed by all those sensory effects — loud sounds, bold colors, flashing lights, and endless action” (WhatToExpect). The author concludes that the loud sounds, bold colors, and flashing lights are ways for young children to become overwhelmed. As a result of technology being a major distraction in children’s lives, they are being taken away from the opportunities that could be given to them. Children are less likely to have the desire to learn new activities, such as hiking or fishing, when they are exposed and addicted to technology at such a young age. The ambition to succeed in school may also be diminished when the overuse of technology occurs. As children succeed from pre-school to fourth-grade, their minds are open to new learning. This learning can consist of sports, schoolwork, or extracurricular activities outside of the classroom. Young, developing children are less likely to have the ambition to learn something new when they are constantly distracted by
