Personal Philosophy of Nursing Sarah Goad Carroll Community College 25 September 2017 Personal Philosophy of Nursing: Introduction I believe that if you love your job, then you will never work a day in your life. In my opinion, it takes a specific type of person to succeed in the nursing profession. I am more certain every day that I have chosen the right path for myself and know I will do great. The way we react or treat patients is dependent on what we learned in training and schooling, provided by nursing educators. In the American Journal of Nursing, Rosemary Taylor stated “…the future of the nursing profession depends on the support imparted by educators in their formation of a professional identity” (Taylor, 2017, p.11). I think that how we teach our nurses with the resources and experiences given to them, will determine how patient care is given. Many facilities are requiring that we at least get out bachelors degree before they even consider you, which is why I plan on getting my doctorate. It is difficult to see how far we have come if we don’t recognize where we originally started. In the past, nursing was considered a woman’s job and men were not inclined or allowed to join the profession. Times have changed since and there is an increase in males pursuing the field of nursing. I find this refreshing because I do not agree with stereotyping jobs with gender and I don’t view nursing as a feminine job, although most might. Schools are even pursuing higher male enrollment in nursing programs over females. I think this will be beneficial for the nursing profession and hopefully, over time, more men will decide to pursue this career. Conclusion I believe that nursing is a growing field with new advancements that will assist nurses in their line of work now and in the future. I want to take part in that change as I move forward in becoming a nurse. It has always been my dream of becoming a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner, and I am determined to accomplish this goal. I am extremely grateful for how far I have come in school and the goals I have achieved.
