My senior capstone unveiled more obstacles than I could have ever anticipated. It all started off rocky having to adjust to a new teacher with higher standards and expectations for my nursing class. I also challenged myself to go beyond my comfort zone and work with those whom I don’t normally work with, as well as learn about a topic I wasn’t necessarily comfortable with. I experienced first hand conflicts with my group members, advisor, and the overall project. Having to comply with the Emergency Medical System workers was our biggest obstacle. My research paper featured an interview where I was able to meet separately with an EMT at a school event; however, getting a hold of an EMT or paramedic while at work was difficult. I am really looking forward to this since it’s completely different compared to other programs and showcases our knowledge in Nursing Assisting. We are currently working on the stations for Capstone Night, and no personal assignments have been set in stone. I really hope to get the harder scenarios like draining a urinary drainage bag, applying a bedpan to a bedridden patient, or performing catheter care. I want to challenge myself and be able to feel more experienced for my CNA Certification. In class we are currently studying for our state exam and practicing our skills during the lab hours. There are two jars set up in the front of the classroom: one holds scenarios of the mandatory skills that will be used during CNA testing, and the other contains the potential skills that may be tested. Practicing is important because each CNA testing candidate is only given 35 minutes to complete 3-4 tasks, so our goal is to improve our speed and accuracy each class. Although our capstone changed, I am still happy to have been able to learn more about the Emergency Medical System and all that it has to offer. I hope our new one will reflect off the real-life N.A career and prepare us for our CNA licensure. I am really looking forward to seeing our performance at Capstone
