At Woodbury Central the students are offered a certified nursing assistant course named Nurse’s Aide. The course is a Western Iowa Tech Community College class that is taught by, Laura Sailer, the WC school nurse. The students are very lucky to have this course available since WC is the first high school in Iowa to offer the class. The class itself has been in place for about 25 years now and runs two separate semesters each school year. Nurse’s Aide is a 75 hour course for students. 45 hours are in class theory and lab, while 30 hours make up clinical practice. To teach the class, you must be a certified CNA instructor and have experience working in long term care facilities. The requirements to join the class are: a physical, be 16 years of age, have your immunizations up to date, and pass a background check. …show more content…

Clinicals are where the students work with a CNA at the Kingsley Specialty Care nursing home and practice the skills that they learn in class with real residents. Junior Jake Dennison comments, “Clinicals give you experience about helping the elderly. They really make you think.” To pass the class, the students must take their semester test. The test includes scenarios that the students must choose the right answer for. After the students pass, they are eligible to test at WIT to become a certified nursing
