Introductions I plan to pursue a career in nursing as a Family Nurse Practitioner. This career take many steps to complete. But it is different routes you can take and different programs you can enroll in for this profession. Family Nurse Practitioners can prescribe medication and diagnose patients and give treatment. They can work either in hospitals and or clinics as a primary healthcare provider. They can also order specific x-rays and test that need to be done for a patient. The nurse practitioners interact with less patients in a clinic than in a hospital. Np’s have privileges to prescribe medications in every state. Experience The experience that I already have is in CNA which I know how to take blood pressure manually and also give bed baths and dress patients. I can also take vitals and be emotional support for the patients and their families. I can give them their meals and feed them and document their condition and any health problems or concerns. I can also assist them to their wheelchairs or in the beds. And I can examine their bodies for any scares rashes burns or anything that I may think that is concerning. But you should want to take a year to complete your prerequisites so you wouldn’t mix it with your program but that is also an option. These three passions have been a driving force in leading me to where I am today, both in my career and my personal life. As a future Family Nurse Practitioner it is very important for me to provide health care services to the underserved population. During my undergrad studies at Lehman College, I was required to research a community to analyze its access to healthcare. In my findings, this particular community lacked primary care providers, over utilized the emergency room as a means of accessing health care services and had a higher mortality rate of preventable diseases compared to several communities with similar demographics. Working for New York City Health and Hospital Corporation will enable me to provide primary and preventative health care services to this community.
When one wants to become a nurse practitioner there is certain requirements that have to be met in order to be qualified. The minimum education required to become a NP is having a Master’s degree in nursing. As of this year, (2015) a doctoral degree will be required. The average education to become a NP is about five to seven years. This is adding up to the years of completed high school. Define Nursing Nursing is a knowledge-based profession within the health care sector that focuses on the overall care of individuals. According to The American College of Nurse Practitioners (ACNP), “defines nurse practitioners as registered nurses who have received graduate-level nursing education and clinical training, which enables them to provide a wide range of preventative and acute health care services to individuals of all ages. They deliver high-quality, cost effective care, often performing physical examinations, ordering tests, making diagnoses, and prescribing and managing medication and therapies”. The transition from student to a qualified nurse can be a stressful and overwhelming ex-perience for many newly qualified nurses. Prior to earning my undergraduate degree in Nursing, I worked as a License Practical Nurse for five years and continue working full time during my undergraduate program. I was enrolled full time in the accelerated Nursing track and graduated with good grades because of the strong support system around me. The career I chose is a nurse practitioner. Saying that you are a registered nurse is a broad statement. Registered nursing is a job that has many aspects. Registered nurses work in many different settings and they carry out many different routines. As a registered nurse you could be exposed to many different opportunities. My goal is to be a registered nurse but, I need to learn a lot. Becoming a being a registered nurse requires a lot of hard work and effort but, if I focus on my goal I will be able to achieve it.
After several years of experience volunteering and working with children, I recognize that my ultimate dream is to become a paediatric registered nurse. I have a genuine passion when it comes to working with children and their families. It is the most rewarding and fulfilling feeling to be remembered for making a positive difference in the lives of children and their families. Since the paediatric population is vulnerable, I believe it is essential to obtain as much paediatric nursing experience as possible, while still in school. Thus, I will have developed a strong knowledge base and the necessary skills to work as a paediatric registered nurse, upon graduation.
Primary nursing made its emergence in the early 1960’s. This care model developed as nurses strived to provide direct care.
