August Friday 13th Footsteps echoed throughout the small apartment. My eyes squinted, trying to adjust to the harsh lighting emitting from my alarm clocks blue interface. The clock read 3:44 am, strange considering how I usually don't wake up in the middle of the night. A small crash erupted from outside my room the second I finished my last thought. Panic rushed through me like an ocean crashing onto shore. I could feel the hairs on my body stand up straight. Each second I stood still the harder it got to control my breathing. My staggered breaths were almost gasps at this point, desperate to get some kind of oxygen into my lungs. The thought of someone in my house terrified me. Slowly I slipped my foot out from under my soft comforter to touch the hard cherry wood floors. Trying my hardest not to make a noise I shifted my weight to that foot and stood up with ease. Carefully opening the door, I walked in hoping for some kind of safety at this point. Once I fished closing the closet door, I heard my bedroom door open slowly. I tried stopping my breathing as someone dug through my drawers and nightstand. Each second hurt more as I could hear my phone being unplugged and stuffed into someone's pocket. Soon after that went my jewelry, the soft clinks of my diamond earrings and silver necklace together distracted me from the fact my breathing had become rapid. Then all the noise stopped, it was if they disappeared. I was tempted to open the door, but decided against and stood frozen. I was able to calm down my shaking form, but it wasn't long till I heard noise again. Footsteps approached the door, I hid behind, centimeters of wood keeping me from a possible murder.
