My Teacher As Role Model

Growing up I always saw my teachers as role models in my life. They were all supportive throughout my life because they were dedicated to their jobs and went out of their way to con-nect with their students outside of the classroom. As a child, not only was I surrounded with in-fluential teachers throughout my education but also in my family — my sister was a third grade teacher. She taught me that teachers must engage their students in the curriculum and it is ac-ceptable to have a little fun incorporated within the lesson plans. In fact, she is the reason I aspire to become an educator and a role model. As a child, I longed to become a teacher. My class only consisted of my little sister where I taught her things that she did not know. When she learned things from me I had an absolute great feeling inside. I would see my older sister organizing her students’ papers and I would beg to help her organize and grade them. Before I knew it I was bringing home my class work and handing it out to my imaginary students to complete. When my imaginary students refused to do my work, I would yell at them. Our world is constantly changing; finding new ways to do things in our professional job will help improve society. John Dewey is the one who thought of this idea, and has made a huge impact with the topic of schooling. He relates this method to the scientific method.
