Recommended: Why reading and writing are important

Shamar McKenzie 2016 LEGEND Compression Wear $500 Scholarship Contest “What does it mean to be a LEGEND in my life?” In order to understand what a legend is, we first need to look at the definition of a legend. A legend is “an extremely famous or notorious person, especially in a particular field”. I really like that definition of legend because it gives more to the meaning of the word legend. If I was asked what a legend to me in my life is without knowing the meaning, I would say “a person or a story that represents tells of someone that did something great in their lifetime that not only they benefited from, but everyone around them”. But the truth is anyone can be a legend, to me my step mom is a legend, my baby sister is a legend, my grandmother is a legend. …show more content…

My step mom taught me how to read and write, when I first came to America at 9 years old I couldn't read, I couldn't even write out my own name, but she took time off and taught me how to read and write. She also sacrificed things in life for me to get where I am in life, and although I'm not her own child she loved me like her own child. She has not only sacrificed things for my well being but for her family's well being, like our house we moved into this past June, she sacrificed almost everything so that we can each have our own room and so we don't have to be bumping into each other every time we would turn around. We were 5 people living in a 2 bedroom apartment, and now we're 5 people living in a 4 bedroom apartment. I know that I can be ungrateful at times to what I want in life and I'm very hard headed, but I love my step mom with all my heart and I'm forever grateful for everything she did and everything she continues to do for me and this
