My Self Evaluation: My Midterm Self-Evaluation

Concluding this fall semester in Ballet II, I believe that I have gained huge improvements. As stated in my midterm self-evaluation, I wanted to spend my time in ballet to focus on areas of performance quality. I set four goals for myself to work on as well that included: stronger lower abdominal core, the use of my port te bras, releasing tension in my hands, and increasing the articulation of my feet. In addition to these certain goals, my hip injury has been a main focus throughout this entire semester. Modifying certain movements during class due to my injury, has allowed me to focus on other alignments within my body, such as rotating my hip correctly without hip hiking and releasing tension in my hip flexors. An exercise that we focused on during class one afternoon, was working on releasing the tension in our hip flexors while pulling down on a Theraband. When doing this exercise, I however, did not feel a release in my hip. I believe that because I have dealt with this injury for so long, gripping in …show more content…

Since setting this goal for myself, I have been working outside of class like was stated during midterms, to improve rolling through my entire foot rather than just at my toes. Improving in this area has allowed me to gain ankle strength. Gaining ankle strength has allowed me to feel more confident when performing combinations in the center. In addition to improving this specific goal, I have as well been working on releasing tension in my hands and dropping my eyebrows. Focusing on my eyebrows has been the hardest thing for me in class because it is such a habitual thing. I have noticed that I mainly raise them while doing petite allegro, pirouettes, and combinations across the floor. During my final, I felt an improvement by the way I was so focused on it, but occasionally there are times that Dr. Sims still catches where I think that I am not doing
