Have you ever realized how much culture means to others? My Mexican culture is important to my family. I have grown up in a culture different than most of my friends’. Although my mother is not Hispanic, my father’s Mexican background has had a significant impact on my life. My Mexican culture consist of traditions, huge holidays, and customs. Second, traditions are very important to my family. Food is important to my family because it’s a traditional thing to do. It’s an opportunity for my family to join and have a good time together. Food bonds my family together because we love to talk and joke around with each other while cooking. For instance, during Christmas the women in my family join together and make tamales. At Mexican American restaurants customers would be offered dishes like chicken, cheese, and rice, but these foods would not be offered at a Hispanic household. Even though I like that food, at home I would eat food like meat, salsa, and tortillas. Mexican food tends to be spicy, colorful, and a huge variety. Most dishes consist of rice, beans, salsa, and tortillas. My aunt is an amazing cook and I love to watch her prepare food because I like to learn how to cook her recipes. For example, when I am visiting her house she likes to cook one of my favorite dish of enchiladas. They are very messy to make but very delicious! Tortillas are the holy grail for dishes! My father is the best in my family at making homemade tortillas. My sisters and I have been helping making tortillas since we were young. My father likes to teach us, so that we can learn and cook them on our own. We usually sit at the table and prepare them while he cooks them. While we mix the dough and portion them out, he will flatten them out and will begin to put them on the stove
