Topic: Pupusas General Purpose: To demonstrate Specific Purpose: I want to demonstrate to the audience how to make authentic Salvadoran pupusas. Thesis: I want to demonstrate how to prepare, form, and cook authentic Salvadoran pupusas. I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: I was raised by a Mexican father and Salvadoran mother. They were proud of their Hispanic heritage and they always tried to find ways to incorporate their heritage into our Americanized environment. They did not want us to forget where our ancestors came from. One of the ways that they would incorporate their Hispanic culture was through the foods we would eat. In our house, we never eat macaroni & cheese, meat loaf, or hot dogs. My mom would always say when we would ask …show more content…

The other ingredient or ingredients you will need is whatever you choose for your filling. The good thing about pupusas is that they are diverse; what I mean by that is there is vegan, vegetarian, and carnivorous options. 1. If you want a vegan option, you can make a refried beans filling, which is literally just smashed refried beans. You can buy the beans or make that at home. 2. If you want a vegetarian option, you can make a mozzarella cheese. This technically is not “authentic”, but it tastes great. There is also pickled loroco, which is a vine with edible flower, with mozzarella cheese. [Transition: This is all you will need for the preparation for your pupusas. Now comes the, somewhat, tricky part of making pupusas. ] III. I want to demonstrate how to form a perfectly round and thick pupusas. I am going to be showing you a simple step-by-step process that does not make forming them so intimidating. A. What you are going to do first is put corn oil on your palms, so that the dough will not stick to your hands. B. Take a pinch from the dough and form a ball between your palms. It should fit in the dent you have in your hands. C. Form a small hole in the middle of the ball and place the filling you chose inside. Then, you close the ball back up
After an eventful night of dancing at nightclubs, I never expected to have the most flavorful tacos reach my mouth. At four in the morning we found ourselves at a small, local hole-in-the-wall where most tourists would not be caught dead at. Even though they were the greatest tacos I have ever had, what I ate most while I was there was tortilla soup. Topped with melted cheese and strips of fried tortillas I devoured a bowl from a place our friend Oscar worked at, Margarita Grille. I am not a soup person but this is something I still crave weekly, as well as the salsa they served. Fresh roasted tomatoes were crushed at our table and mixed with garlic, onions, jalapenos, cilantro and juices of a lime. A scoop of the colorful vegetables on a warm, salted tortilla chip will satisfy your taste buds and keep you going for more. Because Margarita Grille was only a couple blocks from our hotel in the “old town” of Puerto Vallarta, we ate there five or six times. Being an outdoor restaurant, there were always stray cats meandering around for scraps of dropped food. People were told not to feed them, but I think they were a pleasant reminder of being away from
