My Grandmother: A Powerful Woman
Stella Stefanides was born fifty-four years ago in a small village by the Greek-Bulgarian border. Her life reads like a fictional story about deprivation, loss, love and hardships. This woman, whom I am referring to happens to be my grandmother. Her life is truly inspiring because she has overcome many difficulties and continues to be the glue that holds my family together.
Stella was born in the time of the civil war in Greece. Her parents had many babies but they would all die after being removed from their mothers’ womb, which was very common at the time due to the lack of medical assistance. After dealing with the death of five babies, Theano, Stella's mom, was convinced that her dreams of having children were never to be realized. Even as a baby, Stella was a fighter. She fought for her little life and won. That's where she got her name "Stiliani," which means strong in Greek. That name truly captures the essence of her. Growing up was hard. Dealing with the war, the conflicts, the poverty, Stella, just like any other child, had to work. Because she is a female, school was not a priority. Although she wanted to help her family, she insisted on going to school. Craving to learn something new, to explore the world beyond her village borders; she told her parents that she would never leave school. She was willing and able to do both. They agreed, as long as it wouldn't interfere with her work. Deep down inside, her parents were happy that they had a headstrong, smart daughter. School and work weren't easy for Stella. Adding to the picture was a new brother, Savva. Taking care of him while her parents were at the fields became her responsibility. The responsibilities of school, work, takin...

...oss and makes all the decisions. Every customer and community member knows and loves "Mamma Stella." She listens, smiles and is always ready with a kind word and a hug. She yells when you don't finish your food and is generous with goods she bakes in her kitchen.
Stella is an individual who fully embodies the "American Dream." She has had to fight to get where she is and she is passionate about staying there. Her family always comes first and their problems are hers. Stella is admired by many for her love, strength and fierce determination. These qualities were given to her so that she would make a difference in people's lives. She has taken those tools in hand and successfully crafted an amazing life for herself and her family.
I am honored and lucky that Grandma Stella is a part of my life. She inspires me to achieve great things. I am who I am because of her.
In her life, she has overcame obstacles that most people in life most likely would not overcome such as rape, abuse, and even losing her daughter on Christmas Day. Despite of all she has gone through in her life, she is determine to help people to their lives better.
She has many horrific stories of World War II that affected her life forever and her parents were a big impact as well, which really surprised me. Her parents had one goal for her and it was for her to become a teacher. Luckily she liked it and became the teacher she wanted to be now. Not many struggles were given to my grandmother other than tragic events as she was raised by two wealthy parents who truly cared about her. Silvana Giono is my inspiration and as she taught me, I will never give up on anything. Being able to interview her, I have learned that I need to become a better person and work harder for what I really want. This has a big impact on me because I will try even harder for things I really want and will always try my best from now on. I am very glad I was assigned this project, as I feel that I have turned into a better
My relationship with my grandmother paved the way of my education, my faith, my success. Her understanding and unconditional love, as well as, faith in me along with my past experiences, helped shape my character today. I am currently a high school graduate, who was ranked number 4 in my class with a 3.79 G.P.A. Not to mention, on a full scholarship to college, and by the end of July have a total of eleven college credits before becoming an official freshman.
If you want your business cards and other promotional materials to drive your business forward you need to have a strong logo design. While the idea of creating a logo may seem easy, there is more than what meets the eye. Logo design is in fact a complex art form, and it can’t just be thrown together. At least it shouldn’t anyway! Anyone can create a logo yes, but you need this logo to be successful. A successful, effective logo will draw in it’s viewer and instantly reveal that company’s brand and values. You need your logo to be clear, memorable and stick in people’s minds. Many accomplish this by sticking to simple, minimalist concepts. A common strategy in logo design is the use of ligatures.
Have you ever been away from someone so long and then with them for so short of a time, but in that time you see how wonderful this person is, and they leave a mark on everybody they meet, see or touch. The thing is this person has a big problem despite how many people they touch on the outside world, the truth is their family is falling apart …you’d never think this beautiful person has a dysfunctional family. This is a story about a lady I can call grandmother her name is Ms. Carolyn Ruth Norwood. My grandmother is a no nonsense person when it comes to her small family she always wants us to do our best in whatever we’re doing no matter what; I’ve always enjoyed having someone to motivate me with humor. It amazes me how the world works because
Although Fair trade has been presented as a solution to the exploitation of coffee laborers, it isn’t a perfect solution. Though, it is clear that its advantages outweigh its disadvantages when the suffering of the other farmers is seen. Even after those laborers were freed of slavery, they weren’t exactly treated much differently. If this is what is happening to the laborers of this commodity, what is happening to those forced to work in the industry of sugar, petroleum, tea, etc?

In her short story “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, Flannery O’Connor represents symbolically, that leads her readers, to ideas and images, of what it is to be a good man. If a man looks, acts, or dresses a certain way, does not mean they are a good man. The symbolic story reminds readers of the Old South; racism, segregation, and inequality. The Grandmother represents Old South, meaning, kids respected their elders, and people were proud to call the South home. Also, the story describes the children as being disrespectful, and Bailey disregard of this mother native state. As Bailey was driving through Georgia, there is distinct symbolism that associates with each character’s fate. For example, thy sky, when the Grandmother spoke to Red Sammy at the restaurant, her perception of a good man, and the dirt road the family traveled on.
The first aspect of the “American Dream” is freedom. When you hear about the “American Dream” you will hear a lot about freedom, like freedom of speech and the free choice to choose on what you want to do with your life. The character that best fits the “American Dream” of freedom is Beneatha. She is someone who doesn't take no for an answer about what she wants to do with her life and she is a strong willed, that is not going to let people take away her freedom and tell her what to do with it. Some examples are when Beneatha wants to talk things out with George Murchison on what the future is going to be or not
The American Dream, as defined by the Cambridge Dictionary, is the belief that everyone in the United States of America has the chance to be successful and happy if they work hard enough. This idea is one of the major reason why America is the place most people from all over the world want to travel to in order to pursue the American Dream. The American Beauty is a movie that tells a story of what it takes to pursue the American Dream. In the movie, many sides of the American Dream were depicted by different characters in different ways but with similar experiences involving the cost and challenges of pursuing success. Jane is a young lady in the movie who suffered from a dysfunctional family. The lack of love in her home, which was due to her parents’ drive for success, did not only make her an unhappy girl but also led her into seeking love and attention in the hands of a drug dealer.
Fair Trade can be defined as “a trading partnership, based on dialogue, transparency, and respect, that seeks greater equity in international trade. It contributes to sustainable development by offering better trading conditions to, and securing the rights of, marginalized producers and workers – especially in the South. Fair trade organizations (backed by consumers) are engaged actively in supporting producers, awareness raising and in campaigning for changes in the rules and practice of conventional trade”. (Lyon and Moberg 2010) By encouraging more ethical consumer choice, Fair Trade challenges processes which devalue and exploit people in disadvantaged positions and the environment by aiming to re-embed commodity circuits within ecological and social relations. (Lyon and Moberg 2010) Established and enforced by Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), Fair Trade is a voluntary system with its success driven by the wi...
She has been behind bars for 13 years. She claims for her situation to be a “Kill or Get Kill” situation. She describes herself as a survivor. Stella expectations of coming out of prison soon are very high.
As the youngest of five children she was often overlooked. The pride of the family often overrode the opportunity to receive health care, handouts and a decent chance to become something. My mother spent her childhood in a tiny house with her family and many relatives. She was never given the opportunities to excel in learning and life like my generation has. My grandfather was a carpenter and on that living fed many hungry mouths. But despite this already unfortunate lifestyle my mother maintained good grades and was on a path to overcoming her misfortune.
Fair trade can be viewed as a social movement that aims in the development and well being of producers in developing countries. It cannot be said to be a charity, moreover it helps producers in developing countries to help themselves with fair wages and good living and working conditions.
