My Experience Of Working With Groups

Working in a group can be very challenging, but the job must get done. For a semester I worked with a group completing many projects and presentations together. These assignments helped me learn what to expect in the working world, when working with others. I acquired a lot of knowledge about working with groups from this one semester. I mastered the element, conflict, the key to any successful group. Even though my group went through many hard times, we always seemed to get the work done. My group had a large variety of perspectives and beliefs, so that did spark a lot of disagreements. In the first week, my professor separated the class into groups. We all agreed to meet at a restaurant that was pretty close in distance to everyone. When I arrived at the restaurant, Azarely was already there. We waited for about ten minutes to see if everyone else was coming. About thirty minutes later, Whitney showed up. We then called and texted everyone else to see if they were coming, but none of them answered or responded. We went ahead and started to work on the project, even though the rest of our group abandoned us without any notification. The next day we had class together, and the ladies that did not show up had countless excuses. I felt disrespected, because I would have liked if they let us know that they were not coming. Later on that day we meet in the library, to get some work completed. Our first meeting with all us attending did not go very well, because everyone was talking about their personal lives. Now when I look back, it was very important to get to know everyone because it helped us form a bond on a personal level. The social penetration theory made us become closer and understand each other. That day we all agreed to work on separate parts to get the project completed. They can be very dreadful, but you have to be very persistent and hard working. Communication is an important key to any successful group. According to Australasian Medical Journal, a study was done to observe the attitudes of students from Xavier University. The study showed that most students believed good communication skills were required while attending college. Always let your members know how you are feeling in a respectful manner. When you are feeling uncomfortable in a group situation, let your colleagues know. Your group members will never know what is wrong with you, until you express your thoughts and feelings. If you cannot make a group meeting, you have to always let your group members know, because it would be very disrespectful if you do
