Humans are born curious, it is normal for them to know the purpose of every simple and complex things that surrounds them. One of the things that intrigues humans when they walk on streets is the scarf-like covering that hides the entire head, neck and throat of a Muslim woman called the hijab. What is the purpose of a hijab? For young Muslim woman they wear hijab because it is part of their culture without knowing the deeper meaning behind the hijab. On the other hand, according to a well educated, Canadian born and raised, named Naheed Mustafa who has written the article My Body is My own Business. Where she introduced herself as a woman who at the age of 21 reformed her faith to be a Muslim, because she has come to a conclusion that an identity of a woman should be kept only to themselves and this can be acquired through wearing a hijab. For example, in the article it states that people are, " judged according to gender, beauty, wealth, or privilege" (Mustafa). The author's argument here is really broad because she does not explain how a hijab can hide wealth and privilege or in short society's judgement. And also there is no sign of real evidence that she really has acquired freedom. Likewise, Mustafa states that, "Wearing the hijab has given me freedom from constant attention to my physical self"(Mustafa). However, Mustafa also states that she still, "get the whole gamut of strange looks, stares, and cover glances" (Mustafa). This just show that the author is still curious on what others may think about her even though she is wearing a hijab. It reveals that she is rather still jailed in society's thoughts about her not freed. Furthermore, her expectation that social interaction of her to other people will stop, does not happen according to her story.
