Musical Autobiography

For a year, I danced to polka music every night. I was a preschool student at the time, and after a long day of coloring and napping, I would cut loose on the dance floor that was my living room. I would often put an expression of awe on our parents’ faces with the physical absurdities I was capable of. It felt as though every facet of my life as a toddler was brought together in these moments, and the music perfectly represented this phase of my childhood. While this emotional agreement with a piece music was somewhat coincidental, the result is something that I have consciously pursued throughout my life.
Music has always been important to me, and at times crucial to ensure my sanity. That being said, I don’t wish to pursue a career in music, so it is mysterious how music could so valuable to me. I believe that whether I choose a musical lifestyle or not, it is still a fundamental part of everyone’s life and a defining feature of their more concealed attributes. Along with Neil Young, I also discovered the beautiful landscapes of New England which I had previously thought I was numb to, having grown up on Cow Path 40 road, in the woods of southern Vermont. In high school, I began to recognize a new set of Ideals. Authenticity and honesty became more central to me, I became enthralled with visual arts. The harmonies of a landscape could absorb me as if I were a tourist to New England. Tied into all of this were folk music, country music, and a range of artists who really drove me to pursue my own passions.
