Through my experience in a military medical specialty, two primary aspects of military medicine motivate me to pursue a professional career as a military physician. First, I value how the Military Health System leads with a focus on principles rather than profit. By emphasizing this viewpoint in a medical setting, care delivered is more focused on the best interests of the patient. Secondly, the privilege of caring for service members and their families is a rewarding experience. Members that are medically fit and have healthy families are able to focus on performing their duties instead of being hindered due to ill-health. I am a first generation college student, being the second in my family to graduate after my older brother. Since 2012, I have been a part-time student year-around for at least three semesters per year consistently working towards this goal. In January 2015, I married my husband, and we are required to complete immigration paperwork and interviews periodically on his journey to becoming a permanent resident. We communicate effectively and manage finances efficiently to manage the logistics and legal expenses associated with this process. Although these achievements need dedication, faith, and consistency on my part, they also require teamwork. The continuous support I have from my family influences who I am and is evident in the little things as I grew up. I learned the value of hard work through my dad when I would wake up early and watch Star Trek with him before he left for work at 5 am. I developed a love of learning from my mom who would read to my younger sister and me daily.
