Many people go about living their lives without thinking about anything other than what they need to do. They focus on their life and not so much on other people or things that don’t concern them. Many things go on in the world that people should be made aware of, even if it might not directly affect them. A great deal of negative things happen in the world. Some of the things a single person can’t handle by themselves, but little things can be done to help better the planet. He has been lying to himself saying that the poor don’t have it so bad. He states, “I’ve been a victim of a selfish kind of love. It’s time that I realize, that there are some with no home, not a nickel to loan. Could it be really me, pretending that they’re not alone? A willow deeply scarred, somebody’s broken heart, and a washed-out dream. They follow the pattern on the wind, ya’ see, ’cause they got no place to be. That’s why I’m starting with me.” Michael admits that he had been selfish. He assumed things that weren’t true. Some people don’t have a place to go at the end of the day. They aren’t fortunate enough to have a lot in their live. Michael had been assuming that these people in need had other people there for them, when in reality they didn’t. By watching the people, he had started to think that all he had believed had been lies. Just by looking at a person, you can’t tell what they have gone through. You cannot assume that everyone makes it through life easily and happily. Everyone has their own problems, some worse than others. They live the only way they can, and it might not be a very good life. He says he needs to start with himself to help make a change for them.
